# nuxt-server

A skill for Nuxt 4 server-side development with Nitro: API routes, middleware, databases and WebSockets. Useful when the backend lives inside your Nuxt project.

## What it does

The skill lays out the server folder structure for Nuxt 4: `server/api/` for endpoints, `server/routes/` for non-API routes, `server/middleware/`, `server/plugins/` for Nitro plugins and `server/utils/` for helpers. The HTTP method comes from the file suffix — `.get.ts`, `.post.ts`, `.put.ts`, `.patch.ts`, `.delete.ts` — while a plain `.ts` file catches every method.

Inside you get `defineEventHandler` examples: reading route params with `getRouterParam`, query strings with `getQuery`, request bodies with `readBody`, headers with `getHeader`. Responses use `setResponseStatus` and `sendRedirect`, errors go through `createError`. There are separate sections on cookies (`getCookie`, `setCookie`, `deleteCookie`) and on middleware that attaches the user to `event.context.user`.

Database coverage includes Cloudflare D1 with Drizzle: `drizzle-orm/d1`, a schema in `server/database/schema.ts` built on `sqliteTable`. PostgreSQL connections and query patterns sit in reference files the skill loads on demand. One catch: the D1 example reads the binding from `event.context.cloudflare.env`, so outside a Cloudflare runtime you will need to swap in your own driver.

## Requirements
- Works with: PostgreSQL

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill nuxt-server -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/nuxt-server/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/nuxt-server/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill nuxt-server -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/nuxt-server/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill nuxt-server -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/nuxt-server/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install secondsky/claude-skills nuxt-server
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/nuxt-server/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill nuxt-server -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/secondsky/claude-skills --path plugins/nuxt-v4/skills/nuxt-server
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/nuxt-server/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill nuxt-server -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/secondsky/claude-skills/tree/HEAD/plugins/nuxt-v4/skills/nuxt-server/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- scaffold an API route with file-based routing
- read route params and a request body in a handler
- add middleware that checks a token on every request
- wire Cloudflare D1 into Nuxt through Drizzle
- define Drizzle table schemas

## Example prompts
- Create a `GET /api/users/[id]` endpoint that throws a 400 when the id is missing
- Add server middleware that lets only `/api/auth/login` and `/api/health` through without a token
- Set up the D1 connection with Drizzle in `server/utils/db.ts`
