## What it does

The skill guides Nuxt module development using `defineNuxtModule` patterns and Nuxt Kit utilities. It establishes a project layout separating the entry point `src/module.ts`, injected runtime features (`components`, `composables`, `plugins`, `server`), and an interactive `playground/` directory for live verification.

Guidance is split into dedicated files: `development.md` for anatomy and hooks, `testing-and-publishing.md` for E2E testing and npm releases, and `ci-workflows.md` for pipeline templates. The skill explicitly directs the agent not to load all reference files at once, preventing context overflow.

Module scaffolding relies on `npx nuxi init -t module <name>`, and works directly alongside companion guides for `nuxt` and `vue` runtime patterns.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add onmax/nuxt-skills --skill nuxt-modules -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/nuxt-modules/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/nuxt-modules/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add onmax/nuxt-skills --skill nuxt-modules -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/nuxt-modules/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add onmax/nuxt-skills --skill nuxt-modules -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/nuxt-modules/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install onmax/nuxt-skills nuxt-modules
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/nuxt-modules/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add onmax/nuxt-skills --skill nuxt-modules -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/onmax/nuxt-skills --path skills/nuxt-modules
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/nuxt-modules/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add onmax/nuxt-skills --skill nuxt-modules -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/onmax/nuxt-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/nuxt-modules/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- structure local Nuxt modules inside the `modules/` directory
- inject runtime composables, plugins, and server routes via Nuxt Kit
- configure E2E testing setups using test fixtures
- automate npm publishing and CI/CD pipelines for Nuxt packages

## Example prompts
- Help me build a local Nuxt module that registers runtime composables and server middleware
- How do I set up E2E tests for my Nuxt module using test fixtures?
- Generate a CI/CD workflow to test and publish a Nuxt module to npm

# Nuxt Module Development

Guide for creating Nuxt modules that extend framework functionality.

**Related skills:** `nuxt` (basics), `vue` (runtime patterns)

## Quick Start

```bash
npx nuxi init -t module my-module
cd my-module && npm install
npm run dev        # Start playground
npm run dev:build  # Build in watch mode
npm run test       # Run tests
```

- **[references/testing-and-publishing.md](references/testing-and-publishing.md)** - E2E testing, best practices, releasing, publishing
- **[references/ci-workflows.md](references/ci-workflows.md)** - Copy-paste CI/CD workflow templates

## Loading Files

**Consider loading these reference files based on your task:**

- [ ] [references/development.md](references/development.md) - if building module features, using defineNuxtModule, or working with Kit utilities
- [ ] [references/testing-and-publishing.md](references/testing-and-publishing.md) - if writing E2E tests, publishing to npm, or following best practices
- [ ] [references/ci-workflows.md](references/ci-workflows.md) - if setting up CI/CD workflows for your module

**DO NOT load all files at once.** Load only what's relevant to your current task.

## Module Types

| Type      | Location         | Use Case                         |
| --------- | ---------------- | -------------------------------- |
| Published | npm package      | `@nuxtjs/`, `nuxt-` distribution |
| Local     | `modules/` dir   | Project-specific extensions      |
| Inline    | `nuxt.config.ts` | Simple one-off hooks             |
