## What it does

The skill wires your agent to the hosted Nutrient DWS Processor. It covers PDF generation and conversion to `docx`, `xlsx`, `pptx`, `png`, `html` or `markdown`, OCR, JSON-content extraction of text, tables and key-value pairs, packet assembly, watermarking, optimization, and PDF/A or PDF/UA output.

What ships inside: Python helpers in `scripts/` such as `convert.py`, `merge.py`, `split.py`, `ocr.py`, `extract-table.py`, `redact-ai.py`, `sign.py` and `password-protect.py`. Each runs with `uv run` and pulls the pinned `nutrient-dws==3.1.0` client. Multi-step jobs start from `assets/templates/custom-workflow-template.py`, copied to a temporary path and edited.

You need `uv` and a `NUTRIENT_API_KEY` from the Nutrient dashboard, kept in the agent's protected environment rather than in command arguments. Every helper sends document content to an external API and burns credits, so runs require `--estimated-credits` and `--confirm-external-processing` after you approve the estimate. Redaction is two-stage: stage the annotations, review them, then approve the irreversible apply separately. Passwords are read only from owner-only local files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PSPDFKit-labs/nutrient-agent-skill --skill nutrient-document-processing -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/nutrient-document-processing/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/nutrient-document-processing/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PSPDFKit-labs/nutrient-agent-skill --skill nutrient-document-processing -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/nutrient-document-processing/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PSPDFKit-labs/nutrient-agent-skill --skill nutrient-document-processing -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/nutrient-document-processing/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install PSPDFKit-labs/nutrient-agent-skill nutrient-document-processing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/nutrient-document-processing/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PSPDFKit-labs/nutrient-agent-skill --skill nutrient-document-processing -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/PSPDFKit-labs/nutrient-agent-skill --path nutrient-document-processing
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/nutrient-document-processing/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PSPDFKit-labs/nutrient-agent-skill --skill nutrient-document-processing -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/PSPDFKit-labs/nutrient-agent-skill/tree/HEAD/nutrient-document-processing/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- generate a PDF from a template and data
- OCR a scanned document that has no text layer
- pull tables and key-value pairs out of a PDF
- merge several files into one packet and split it again
- produce PDF/A or PDF/UA output for a compliance check

## Example prompts
- Convert report.docx to PDF/A and save it next to the original
- OCR scan.pdf and extract the tables as JSON
- Merge the three contracts into packet.pdf and add a watermark

# Nutrient Document Processing

Use this skill for managed document processing where fidelity, compliance, or a multi-step workflow justifies transferring the user's files to Nutrient DWS.

## Product router

Choose the product before estimating cost or selecting credentials:

| Need | Product | Route used here |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Convert, generate, assemble, OCR, JSON-content extraction, redact, sign, optimize, PDF/A or PDF/UA output | **DWS Processor** | Pinned Python helpers in `scripts/` using `NUTRIENT_API_KEY` |
| High-fidelity document parsing to markdown or spatial JSON | **Data Extraction** | Separate `/extraction/parse` product, credential, and credit pool; use its current official client/docs |
| Accessibility auto-tagging and PDF/UA validation workflow | **Accessibility** | Separate current Accessibility API/product; do not use the deprecated Processor `/processor/pdfua` endpoint |

Do not reuse Processor cost estimates, credentials, or payloads for Data Extraction or Accessibility.

## Setup

- Get a Processor API key from <https://dashboard.nutrient.io/sign_up/?product=processor>.
- Configure `NUTRIENT_API_KEY` through the agent host's protected runtime environment or secrets manager. Never ask the user to paste the key into chat, and never put it in command arguments, logs, generated scripts, or committed configuration. Verify only that the variable is present, not its value.

- Each script uses PEP 723 metadata pinned to `nutrient-dws==3.1.0`; run it with `uv run`.
