## What it does

Reach for this skill when a deployed or scheduled Notte Function has begun to fail or hand back empty output. You point at the broken Function; the skill traces the root cause, re-explores the surface that changed, tests a patch in isolation, and promotes it only after you confirm.

Diagnosis is the hard part, not editing. A broken scrape often throws nothing at all and quietly returns `[]` because a selector or endpoint moved. The skill leans on the Function's health contract and its last good run to establish what correct output looks like, then reasons backward from the failure. The pipeline runs in seven phases: setup, identify, recover, diagnose, re-explore, verify, promote. Finding a Function by name means paging through results, since `functions list` returns 10 items per page and the API caps `--page-size` at 100.

Some failures are not code problems. Expired credentials or an auth wall need the vault or persona refreshed on your side; an anti-bot block calls for `--proxy` or a trusted profile; a site that was rebuilt from scratch needs the new target agreed on first. In those cases the skill stops at the diagnosis and leaves the code alone. The CLI cannot read a cron back, so save the schedule expression up front and re-apply it by hand.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add nottelabs/notte-skills --skill notte-functions-doctor -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/notte-functions-doctor/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/notte-functions-doctor/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add nottelabs/notte-skills --skill notte-functions-doctor -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/notte-functions-doctor/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add nottelabs/notte-skills --skill notte-functions-doctor -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/notte-functions-doctor/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install nottelabs/notte-skills notte-functions-doctor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/notte-functions-doctor/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add nottelabs/notte-skills --skill notte-functions-doctor -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/nottelabs/notte-skills --path plugins/notte/skills/notte-functions-doctor
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/notte-functions-doctor/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add nottelabs/notte-skills --skill notte-functions-doctor -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- find out why a Function returns an empty list instead of data
- tell a broken selector apart from expired credentials
- test a patch on a copy without disturbing the live Function
- locate a Function by name across a paginated list
- restore the cron schedule after a repair

## Example prompts
- My fn_abc123 function returns empty now — figure out what broke
- Repair my scraper function, the site changed and it stopped collecting data
- Diagnose why my scheduled function stopped working

  Diagnose and repair a broken Notte Function. Use when a deployed or scheduled

  "my function fn_... returns empty now", "repair my scraper function", "the

  or "diagnose why my scheduled function stopped working". The user supplies the
  Function that is broken; this skill finds the root cause, re-explores the

# Notte Functions Doctor

A user-triggered repair tool for a broken [Notte Function](https://docs.notte.cc/concepts/functions). The user already knows a Function is failing - this skill's job is to find out *why*, fix it when it is fixable, verify the fix without disturbing the live Function, and promote it only with explicit approval.

The hard part of repair is not editing code - it is **diagnosis**. A broken scrape usually does not error; it silently returns `[]` or garbage because a selector or endpoint moved. This skill leans on the Function's health contract (stamped by [notte-functions-build](../notte-functions-build/SKILL.md)) and its last good run to know what "correct" looks like, then works backward from the failure.

> **Relationship to notte-functions-build.** Doctor reuses that skill's two engines - **exploration** (find the new stable path) and **self-test** (verify against the contract) - pointed at an *existing* Function instead of a blank one. It also builds on the base [notte-browser skill](../notte-browser/SKILL.md). Load those for the full command reference.

## What this skill can and cannot fix

Be honest about the boundary. Not every failure is a code fix, and flailing on an unfixable one wastes runs and can make things worse.

| Failure class | Doctor's action |
|---------------|-----------------|
| Selector / endpoint drift (runs OK, returns empty/wrong shape) | **Fix** - re-explore, patch, verify, promote |
| Hard exception in `run()` | **Fix** - re-explore the failing step, patch |
```
