# nginx-config-optimizer

A skill that writes Nginx configs: reverse proxy, load balancing, caching, SSL and rate limits. Useful when you need to set up or rewrite a server config.

## What it does

The skill walks the agent through a fixed order: pick the architecture (reverse proxy, load balancer or static serving), configure SSL/TLS, security headers and rate limiting, then caching, compression and buffers, then an `upstream` pool, logging and metrics. It finishes by validating and reloading the config.

Inside are ready blocks for `/etc/nginx/nginx.conf` and a site config: `worker_processes auto`, `worker_rlimit_nofile 65535`, `worker_connections 4096`, gzip at level 5, TLSv1.2 and TLSv1.3, `limit_req_zone` zones for general traffic, API and login, and a `proxy_cache_path` sized at 1g. For backends it shows `least_conn` and `ip_hash`, `keepalive`, weights, a backup server, plus `max_fails` and `fail_timeout`.

One caveat: the health check directive sits commented out, because it only works on Nginx Plus or OpenResty. Brotli is commented out too — the module may not be compiled into your build. Worth checking your build before copying the block as is.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill nginx-config-optimizer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/nginx-config-optimizer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/nginx-config-optimizer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill nginx-config-optimizer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/nginx-config-optimizer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill nginx-config-optimizer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/nginx-config-optimizer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install patricio0312rev/skills nginx-config-optimizer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/nginx-config-optimizer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill nginx-config-optimizer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/patricio0312rev/skills --path ci-cd/nginx-config-optimizer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/nginx-config-optimizer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill nginx-config-optimizer -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- write a reverse proxy config for an app on port 3000
- balance traffic across several backends with weights
- turn on static caching and gzip without breaking file delivery
- harden a server with security headers and request limits
- switch access logs to JSON for parsing and metrics

## Example prompts
- Set up Nginx as a reverse proxy for the app on 10.0.1.10:3000 with SSL
- Write an Nginx config with least_conn balancing across three backends
- Add static caching and login rate limiting to my Nginx config

# Nginx Config Optimizer

Create optimized Nginx configurations for high-performance web serving and reverse proxying.

## Core Workflow

1. **Define architecture**: Reverse proxy, load balancer, or static serving
2. **Configure security**: SSL/TLS, headers, rate limiting
3. **Optimize performance**: Caching, compression, buffers
4. **Setup upstream**: Backend server pools
5. **Add monitoring**: Access logs, metrics
6. **Test configuration**: Validate and reload

## Main Configuration

```nginx
# /etc/nginx/nginx.conf
