## What it does

The skill directs the AI agent to follow a strict frontend setup. It covers Next.js App Router, Redux Toolkit slices made with `createSlice`, Shadcn UI primitives, and Tailwind CSS. The agent defaults to Server Components, reserving `'use client'` strictly for event listeners, browser APIs, and client-side hooks.

Code formatting rules are rigid: tab indentation, single quotes, omitted semicolons, and an 80-character line ceiling. For data structures, the rules demand `interface` over `type`, while forms must rely on Zod schemas and React Hook Form. Unit tests follow the Arrange-Act-Assert structure with Jest and React Testing Library.

Because it enforces tabs and no semicolons, this skill conflicts immediately with standard Prettier configurations that use spaces and trailing semicolons.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill nextjs-react-redux-typescript-cursor-rules -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/nextjs-react-redux-typescript-cursor-rules/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/nextjs-react-redux-typescript-cursor-rules/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill nextjs-react-redux-typescript-cursor-rules -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/nextjs-react-redux-typescript-cursor-rules/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill nextjs-react-redux-typescript-cursor-rules -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/nextjs-react-redux-typescript-cursor-rules/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Mindrally/skills nextjs-react-redux-typescript-cursor-rules
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/nextjs-react-redux-typescript-cursor-rules/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill nextjs-react-redux-typescript-cursor-rules -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Mindrally/skills --path nextjs-react-redux-typescript-cursor-rules
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/nextjs-react-redux-typescript-cursor-rules/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill nextjs-react-redux-typescript-cursor-rules -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- structure Next.js projects using App Router and Server Components
- organize global application state with Redux Toolkit slices
- build accessible forms validated with Zod and React Hook Form
- enforce TypeScript interfaces and strict type safety

## Example prompts
- Create a Redux Toolkit slice for user authentication with normalized state and selectors.
- Build a profile settings form using React Hook Form and Zod schema validation.
- Scaffold a Next.js App Router page that loads server data and handles metadata.

# Next.js React Redux TypeScript Cursor Rules

Complete development guidelines for building maintainable, scalable applications with Next.js, React, Redux Toolkit, and TypeScript.

## Development Philosophy

- Produce maintainable, scalable code following SOLID principles
- Favor functional and declarative approaches over imperative styles
- Prioritize type safety and static analysis
- Embrace component-driven architecture

## Code Style Standards

- **Indentation**: Use tabs
- **Strings**: Use single quotes (unless escaping needed)
- **Semicolons**: Omit unless disambiguation required
- **Operators**: Space around infix operators
- **Functions**: Space before declaration parentheses
- **Equality**: Always use `===` over `==`
- **Line length**: Maximum 80 characters
- **Conditionals**: Use braces for multi-line if statements
- **Collections**: Trailing commas in multiline arrays/objects

## Naming Conventions

| Convention | Usage |
|------------|-------|
| PascalCase | Components, type definitions, interfaces |
| kebab-case | Directory and file names (e.g., `user-profile.tsx`) |
| camelCase | Variables, functions, methods, hooks, properties, props |
| UPPERCASE | Environment variables, constants, global configurations |

### Prefixes

- **Event handlers**: `handle` (e.g., `handleClick`)
- **Booleans**: verbs (e.g., `isLoading`, `hasError`, `canSubmit`)
- **Custom hooks**: `use` (e.g., `useAuth`, `useForm`)

## React Best Practices

### Components

- Use functional components with TypeScript interfaces
- Define components using `function` keyword
- Extract reusable logic into custom hooks
- Apply composition patterns properly
- Leverage `React.memo()` strategically
- Implement cleanup in `useEffect` hooks

### Performance

- Use `useCallback` for memoizing functions
- Apply `useMemo` for expensive computations
- Avoid inline function definitions in JSX
- Implement code splitting via dynamic imports
- Use proper `key` props in lists (never use index)

## Next.js Best Practices

### Core

- Use App Router for routing
- Implement metadata management
- Apply proper caching strategies
- Implement error boundaries
