## What it does

The skill queries the Brave news search endpoint using GET or POST requests. It returns article titles, source links, summaries, publication age, and thumbnail images. Queries are capped at 400 characters and 50 words. By default, it retrieves 20 results for the US region in English.

A valid `BRAVE_SEARCH_API_KEY` on the Search plan is strictly required, because requests without a token will fail. You can filter results by timeframe using `freshness` values such as `pd` for the past day, `pw` for a week, or a custom date range.

Custom ranking is handled via Goggles. You can feed inline ranking rules to discard spam sites with `$discard` or promote preferred outlets with `boost`. SafeSearch filtering is active by default under strict mode.

```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill news-search -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/news-search/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill news-search -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/news-search/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install brave/brave-search-skills news-search
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**

```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill news-search -a opencode
```
