## What it does

The skill walks through the whole path: inspect the source tables, build projection views, then run an algorithm with a single `CALL` whose JSON config holds the `project`, `compute` and `write` parts. Results are written back to Snowflake tables. Algorithms include PageRank, Louvain, WCC, Dijkstra, KNN, Node2Vec, FastRP and GraphSAGE.

View preparation is where most runs break. The engine is strict about column names and types: a node key must be exposed as `NODEID` of type `BIGINT` or `STRING`, node properties allow only `BIGINT`, `DOUBLE`, `ARRAY` and `VECTOR(FLOAT, n)`, and relationship properties are narrower still — `BIGINT`, `DOUBLE`, `INT`. Snowflake views inherit the source column type, so an explicit `CAST` is not optional. Types like `VARCHAR`, `VARIANT` or `GEOGRAPHY` cannot be graph properties and get dropped; readable labels come from joining numeric output back to the source table on the key.

Privilege setup is covered in both modes: app-identity grants and execute-as-user with per-user PAT auth (`set_enable_custom_credentials`, `register_user_role`). `Neo4j_Graph_Analytics` is only the default app name — under a different one you replace it in every procedure call and grant. Cypher, Aura Graph Analytics and self-managed GDS are out of scope; separate skills handle those.

## Requirements
- Works with: Snowflake

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add neo4j-contrib/neo4j-skills --skill neo4j-snowflake-graph-analytics-skill -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/neo4j-snowflake-graph-analytics-skill/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/neo4j-snowflake-graph-analytics-skill/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add neo4j-contrib/neo4j-skills --skill neo4j-snowflake-graph-analytics-skill -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/neo4j-snowflake-graph-analytics-skill/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add neo4j-contrib/neo4j-skills --skill neo4j-snowflake-graph-analytics-skill -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/neo4j-snowflake-graph-analytics-skill/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install neo4j-contrib/neo4j-skills neo4j-snowflake-graph-analytics-skill
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/neo4j-snowflake-graph-analytics-skill/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add neo4j-contrib/neo4j-skills --skill neo4j-snowflake-graph-analytics-skill -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/neo4j-contrib/neo4j-skills --path neo4j-snowflake-graph-analytics-skill
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/neo4j-snowflake-graph-analytics-skill/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add neo4j-contrib/neo4j-skills --skill neo4j-snowflake-graph-analytics-skill -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- run PageRank over Snowflake tables without exporting data
- build projection views with the column types the engine accepts
- execute an algorithm in one SQL `CALL`
- set up app privileges for analytics runs
- join numeric results back to readable labels

## Example prompts
- Run Louvain over my Snowflake tables with Neo4j Graph Analytics
- Prepare node and relationship views for a graph from my tables
- Set up per-user PAT access to the Neo4j Graph Analytics app

Snowflake Native App — graph algorithm power inside Snowflake. Data stays in Snowflake; project into a graph, run algorithms via SQL `CALL`, results written back to Snowflake tables.

**Docs:** https://neo4j.com/docs/snowflake-graph-analytics/current/

---

## When to Use
- Running graph algorithms / GDS in Snowflake
- Data already lives in Snowflake tables
- On-demand / pipeline workloads — ephemeral sessions, pay per session-minute
- Full isolation from the live database during analytics

## When NOT to Use
- **Aura Pro with embedded GDS plugin** → `neo4j-gds-skill`
- **Aura Graph Analytics** → `neo4j-aura-graph-analytics-skill`
- **Self-managed Neo4j with embedded GDS plugin** → `neo4j-gds-skill`
- **Writing Cypher queries** → `neo4j-cypher-skill`

## The End-to-End Flow

This is the flow that works. Don't jump straight to a `CALL` — most failures come from skipping the data-preparation step.
