## What it does

The skill wires NeMo Evaluator SDK into your agent — NVIDIA's platform for LLM benchmarking. Evaluation runs in containers, so results stay reproducible, and you can execute locally on Docker, on a Slurm HPC cluster, or on Lepton cloud. The harness count is 18+, benchmarks go past a hundred: academic sets like MMLU and GSM8K, safety checks, and vision-language tasks.

Everything goes through `nemo-evaluator-launcher`. You write a YAML config with the model endpoint, the task list and run parameters. Then `nemo-evaluator-launcher run --config-dir . --config-name config` kicks off the evaluation, while `status`, `ls runs` and `info` tell you what the job is doing. Results land in `results/<invocation_id>/<task>/artifacts/results.yml` and can be exported to MLflow, Weights & Biases or local JSON.

You need an `NGC_API_KEY` for NVIDIA endpoints, and some tasks also want `HF_TOKEN`. Without the key an evaluation against a cloud endpoint will not start — check that first. Self-hosted endpoints such as vLLM need no key, so the config leaves that value empty.

## Requirements
- Works with: Docker

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Orchestra-Research/AI-Research-SKILLs --skill nemo-evaluator-sdk -a claude-code
```
```bash
npx skills add Orchestra-Research/AI-Research-SKILLs --skill nemo-evaluator -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/nemo-evaluator/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/nemo-evaluator/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Orchestra-Research/AI-Research-SKILLs --skill nemo-evaluator -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/nemo-evaluator/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Orchestra-Research/AI-Research-SKILLs --skill nemo-evaluator -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/nemo-evaluator/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Orchestra-Research/AI-Research-SKILLs nemo-evaluator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/nemo-evaluator/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Orchestra-Research/AI-Research-SKILLs --skill nemo-evaluator -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Orchestra-Research/AI-Research-SKILLs --path 11-evaluation/nemo-evaluator
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/nemo-evaluator/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Orchestra-Research/AI-Research-SKILLs --skill nemo-evaluator -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Orchestra-Research/AI-Research-SKILLs/tree/HEAD/11-evaluation/nemo-evaluator/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- run a model through MMLU, GSM8K and IFEval in one go
- compare two models on the same task set
- check a model against safety benchmarks like Aegis and WildGuard
- launch evaluation on a Slurm cluster with multiple GPUs
- push metrics into MLflow or Weights & Biases

## Example prompts
- Set up a config to evaluate `meta/llama-3.1-8b-instruct` on `ifeval` and `gsm8k_cot_instruct`, then run it
- Compare two models on the same benchmarks and export the results to MLflow
- Run the evaluation on Slurm: 1 node, 8 GPUs per node, 4 hour walltime

# NeMo Evaluator SDK - Enterprise LLM Benchmarking

## Quick Start

NeMo Evaluator SDK evaluates LLMs across 100+ benchmarks from 18+ harnesses using containerized, reproducible evaluation with multi-backend execution (local Docker, Slurm HPC, Lepton cloud).

**Installation**:
```bash
pip install nemo-evaluator-launcher
```

**Set API key and run evaluation**:
```bash
export NGC_API_KEY=nvapi-your-key-here
# Create minimal config
cat > config.yaml << 'EOF'
defaults:
  - execution: local
  - deployment: none
  - _self_
execution:
  output_dir: ./results
target:
  api_endpoint:
    model_id: meta/llama-3.1-8b-instruct
    url: https://integrate.api.nvidia.com/v1/chat/completions
    api_key_name: NGC_API_KEY
evaluation:
  tasks:
    - name: ifeval
EOF
# Run evaluation
nemo-evaluator-launcher run --config-dir . --config-name config
```

**View available tasks**:
```bash
nemo-evaluator-launcher ls tasks
```

## Common Workflows

### Workflow 1: Evaluate Model on Standard Benchmarks

Run core academic benchmarks (MMLU, GSM8K, IFEval) on any OpenAI-compatible endpoint.

**Checklist**:
```
Standard Evaluation:
- [ ] Step 1: Configure API endpoint
- [ ] Step 2: Select benchmarks
- [ ] Step 3: Run evaluation
- [ ] Step 4: Check results
```

**Step 1: Configure API endpoint**

```yaml
# config.yaml
defaults:
  - execution: local
  - deployment: none
  - _self_
execution:
  output_dir: ./results
target:
  api_endpoint:
    model_id: meta/llama-3.1-8b-instruct
    url: https://integrate.api.nvidia.com/v1/chat/completions
    api_key_name: NGC_API_KEY
```

For self-hosted endpoints (vLLM, TRT-LLM):
```yaml
target:
  api_endpoint:
    model_id: my-model
