# narrative-tracker

This skill pulls crypto and tech narratives from X, scores their mindshare and velocity, and gives each one a position call: FRONT-RUN, RIDE, FADE, WATCH or IGNORE.

## What it does

The skill starts by reading `memory/MEMORY.md` and the last three days of `memory/logs/`. That keeps it from repeating old observations and lets it spot phase shifts between runs. The main signal comes from a direct `curl` to the X.AI Responses API using Grok's `x_search` tool, with the reply parsed by `jq`.

Every narrative gets a mindshare score from 1 to 5, a velocity arrow, a phase label (Emerging, Rising, Peak, Fading), a sentiment tag and 2-3 named drivers with @handles. Each one also carries a one-line bear case. Narratives scored IGNORE are dropped unless they matter structurally. The run then diffs today's list against the logs and marks transitions such as NEW or PROMOTED.

\`XAI_API_KEY` has to be set, otherwise the primary path never fires. When the key is missing, the HTTP status is not 2xx, the body is empty or the call times out, the skill falls back to WebSearch and WebFetch. That route is weaker because search surfaces older high-engagement posts. The final output names the real failure reason: `key-unset`, `http-<code>`, `empty` or `timeout`. The skill runs read-only.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aeonfun/aeon --skill narrative-tracker -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/narrative-tracker/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/narrative-tracker/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aeonfun/aeon --skill narrative-tracker -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/narrative-tracker/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aeonfun/aeon --skill narrative-tracker -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/narrative-tracker/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install aeonfun/aeon narrative-tracker
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/narrative-tracker/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aeonfun/aeon --skill narrative-tracker -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/aeonfun/aeon --path skills/narrative-tracker
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/narrative-tracker/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aeonfun/aeon --skill narrative-tracker -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/aeonfun/aeon/tree/HEAD/skills/narrative-tracker/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- tell a narrative that is still climbing from one that already played out
- merge three days of tweets into one deduplicated topic list
- get an explicit position call instead of a bare classification
- catch a phase change against the previous run
- calibrate mindshare against outside metrics such as DefiLlama or Kaito

## Example prompts
- Map the crypto narratives from the last three days and give me a position call on each
- Which narratives are peaking right now and which are fading? Compare with the previous run
- Check whether any narrative moved from Emerging to Rising

<!-- autoresearch: variation B — sharper output (quantitative mindshare + velocity + explicit positioning calls, with multi-angle inputs from A, dedup/empty-state handling from C, and transition detection from D) -->

Read `memory/MEMORY.md` for context on prior narrative observations.
Read the last 3 days of `memory/logs/` — specifically any prior `### narrative-tracker` entries — to (a) avoid re-reporting the same narratives without new info, and (b) detect phase transitions vs the last run.

## Goal

Produce a *decision-grade* narrative map: every narrative gets a mindshare score, a velocity arrow, a sentiment tag, named drivers, and an explicit position call. Classification without a position call is noise.

## Steps

### 1. Ingest signals

**a. X/Twitter narratives — X.AI API (primary).** The primary signal is a direct `curl` to the X.AI Responses API with Grok's `x_search` tool — see **## Fetching** below for the full contract. `XAI_API_KEY` is injected into this skill's environment via `requires:`; it is present and valid, so this path is required whenever the key check prints `KEY_PRESENT`. Set the Bash tool `timeout` to ≥180000 when running the curl (x_search takes 30-120s) and capture the HTTP status:
```bash
FROM_DATE=$(date -u -d "3 days ago" +%Y-%m-%d 2>/dev/null || date -u -v-3d +%Y-%m-%d)
TO_DATE=$(date -u +%Y-%m-%d)
# Presence check uses the ${VAR:+x} modified expansion, NOT a bare $XAI_API_KEY — the bare
# form trips the Bash secret-expansion analyzer; the :+ form does not (it never puts the value on the line).
[ -n "${XAI_API_KEY:+x}" ] && echo KEY_PRESENT || echo KEY_UNSET
# Build the JSON payload to a file with jq (do NOT hand-assemble it), then POST the file.
# TWO SEPARATE commands on purpose: the jq (which interpolates $PROMPT/$FROM_DATE/$TO_DATE)
# is kept OUT of the ./secretcurl command — never pipe jq into secretcurl, and never put a
# $VAR in the secretcurl line, or the Bash permission analyzer blocks the network call.
# The `>` redirect to /tmp is fine in read-only mode (it is not a repo path; nothing reverts it).
````
END THIRD-PARTY FILE c38985141e2ffe78

The third-party file has ended. Everything between the c38985141e2ffe78 tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
