# n8n-workflow

This skill lets the agent assemble n8n document pipelines, from trigger to delivery. Useful when PDFs, OCR, email and Slack need to run without manual steps.

## What it does

The skill teaches the agent n8n's node model: triggers (Webhook, Schedule, File Watcher), document nodes (read PDF, write DOCX, OCR), transforms (Code, Set, Merge) and outputs (Email, Slack, Google Drive). You describe the task in plain words and the agent wires the nodes together. A contract review pipeline ships as an example: a folder `incoming` is watched for new files, text is pulled from the PDF, passed to the `n8n-nodes-base.anthropic` node with model `claude-sonnet-4-20250514`, the report is saved, and the team gets a Slack message.

For document nodes the skill advises installing dependencies first: `pip install python-docx openpyxl python-pptx reportlab jinja2`. n8n itself runs either self-hosted or in the cloud. Self-hosting keeps your data on your own machine but you maintain it; the cloud skips setup and costs more as you scale. Docker quick start: `docker run -it --rm -p 5678:5678 -v ~/.n8n:/home/node/.n8n n8nio/n8n`.

The skill's own guidance: start from existing templates and adjust them, add error-handling nodes, keep credentials in n8n's credential manager, and test on sample data before production. If you already run n8n, the skill is still worth a look — it gives the agent a structure so nodes don't end up scattered.

## Requirements
- Works with: n8n

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill n8n-workflow -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/n8n-workflow/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/n8n-workflow/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill n8n-workflow -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/n8n-workflow/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill n8n-workflow -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/n8n-workflow/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install claude-office-skills/skills n8n-workflow
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/n8n-workflow/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill n8n-workflow -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/claude-office-skills/skills --path n8n-workflow
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/n8n-workflow/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill n8n-workflow -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/claude-office-skills/skills/tree/HEAD/n8n-workflow/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- chain PDF → OCR → translation → email into one flow
- watch a folder for new contracts and notify the team
- generate a daily report from several data sources
- batch-process documents with conditional logic per step
- connect n8n to external apps through ready-made nodes

## Example prompts
- Build an n8n workflow: folder `incoming` → extract PDF text → review with Anthropic → save report → notify Slack
- Create an n8n workflow that pulls a daily report from several sources and emails it
- Describe the n8n nodes for batch document processing with conditions

# N8N Workflow Skill

## Overview

This skill enables document workflow automation using **n8n** - the most popular workflow automation platform with 7800+ community templates. Chain document operations, integrate with 400+ apps, and build complex document pipelines.

## How to Use

1. Describe what you want to accomplish
2. Provide any required input data or files
3. I'll execute the appropriate operations

**Example prompts:**
- "Automate PDF → OCR → Translation → Email workflow"
- "Watch folder for new contracts → Review → Notify Slack"
- "Daily report generation from multiple data sources"
- "Batch document processing with conditional logic"

## Domain Knowledge

### n8n Fundamentals

n8n uses a node-based workflow approach:

```
Trigger → Action → Action → Output
   │         │         │
   └─────────┴─────────┴── Data flows between nodes
```

### Key Node Types

| Type | Examples | Use Case |
|------|----------|----------|
| **Triggers** | Webhook, Schedule, File Watcher | Start workflow |
| **Document** | Read PDF, Write DOCX, OCR | Process files |
| **Transform** | Code, Set, Merge | Manipulate data |
