## What it does

dogfood works through app sections, tries controls and forms, and checks the browser console for errors. You can narrow the scope to a page such as billing. The target URL is required; authentication can be provided when the app needs a login.

For bugs that require interaction, the skill records a video and captures screenshots throughout reproduction. A visible-on-load issue gets an annotated screenshot instead. Findings go into `report.md`, with files saved under `./dogfood-output/`. Browser actions use `agent-browser` directly; the instructions rule out `npx agent-browser`.

The skill can save login state to `auth-state.json` for later use. If sign-in requires a one-time code, the user must supply it. The resulting report gives others steps and evidence to replay each issue.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvschwarz/openrig --skill dogfood -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/dogfood/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/dogfood/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvschwarz/openrig --skill dogfood -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/dogfood/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvschwarz/openrig --skill dogfood -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/dogfood/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mvschwarz/openrig dogfood
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/dogfood/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvschwarz/openrig --skill dogfood -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mvschwarz/openrig --path skills/_canonical/process/dogfood
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/dogfood/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvschwarz/openrig --skill dogfood -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/mvschwarz/openrig/tree/HEAD/skills/_canonical/process/dogfood/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- inspect the main sections of a web app
- find defects in forms and interactive controls
- capture video and screenshots while reproducing a bug
- record browser console errors

## Example prompts
- Explore `http://localhost:3000`, report bugs, and save the evidence.
- Check the billing page for usability and functional issues, with reproduction steps.
- Test the site after sign-in; ask me for credentials if needed.

# Dogfood

Systematically explore a web application, find issues, and produce a report with full reproduction evidence for every finding.

## Setup

Only the **Target URL** is required. Everything else has sensible defaults -- use them unless the user explicitly provides an override.

| Parameter | Default | Example override |
|-----------|---------|-----------------|
| **Target URL** | _(required)_ | `vercel.com`, `http://localhost:3000` |
| **Session name** | Slugified domain (e.g., `vercel.com` -> `vercel-com`) | `--session my-session` |
| **Output directory** | `./dogfood-output/` | `Output directory: /tmp/qa` |
| **Scope** | Full app | `Focus on the billing page` |
| **Authentication** | None | `Sign in to user@example.com` |

If the user says something like "dogfood vercel.com", start immediately with defaults. Do not ask clarifying questions unless authentication is mentioned but credentials are missing.

Always use `agent-browser` directly -- never `npx agent-browser`. The direct binary uses the fast Rust client. `npx` routes through Node.js and is significantly slower.

## Workflow

```
1. Initialize    Set up session, output dirs, report file
2. Authenticate  Sign in if needed, save state
3. Orient        Navigate to starting point, take initial snapshot
4. Explore       Systematically visit pages and test features
5. Document      Screenshot + record each issue as found
6. Wrap up       Update summary counts, close session
```

### 1. Initialize

```bash
mkdir -p {OUTPUT_DIR}/screenshots {OUTPUT_DIR}/videos
```

Copy the report template into the output directory and fill in the header fields:

```bash
cp {SKILL_DIR}/templates/dogfood-report-template.md {OUTPUT_DIR}/report.md
```

Start a named session:

```bash
agent-browser --session {SESSION} open {TARGET_URL}
agent-browser --session {SESSION} wait --load networkidle
```

### 2. Authenticate

If the app requires login:

```bash
agent-browser --session {SESSION} snapshot -i
# Identify login form refs, fill credentials
agent-browser --session {SESSION} fill @e1 "{EMAIL}"
agent-browser --session {SESSION} fill @e2 "{PASSWORD}"
agent-browser --session {SESSION} click @e3
agent-browser --session {SESSION} wait --load networkidle
```

For OTP/email codes: ask the user, wait for their response, then enter the code.
