## What it does

The skill guides multi-tenant architecture on either Cloudflare or Vercel through an eight-step workflow. You choose one platform first. Cloudflare fits when tenants run arbitrary code on Workers with KV and D1 storage. Vercel suits single-codebase Next.js setups where clients share App Router logic but differ by branding and plan limits.

Never front a Vercel deployment with Cloudflare proxying. Doubling the TLS and redirect layers causes redirect loops and breaks certificate renewal. The skill keeps customer workloads on a separate domain such as `acme.app` so bad tenant actors never compromise your primary `acme.com` domain. For data storage, it applies shared schemas with PostgreSQL Row-Level Security, reserving isolated databases for enterprise tiers.

Routing rewrites happen deterministically. Inbound `x-tenant-*` headers are stripped immediately to block spoofing attacks. The edge proxy injects validated headers before forwarding requests to server components. Tenant context is then re-verified during session authentication and database queries.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mblode/agent-skills --skill multi-tenant-architecture -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/multi-tenant-architecture/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/multi-tenant-architecture/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mblode/agent-skills --skill multi-tenant-architecture -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/multi-tenant-architecture/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mblode/agent-skills --skill multi-tenant-architecture -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/multi-tenant-architecture/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mblode/agent-skills multi-tenant-architecture
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/multi-tenant-architecture/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mblode/agent-skills --skill multi-tenant-architecture -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mblode/agent-skills --path skills/multi-tenant-architecture
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/multi-tenant-architecture/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mblode/agent-skills --skill multi-tenant-architecture -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- isolate tenant data using PostgreSQL RLS policies
- route wildcard subdomains and custom hostnames deterministically
- separate tenant workloads from the main corporate domain
- strip and forward tenant headers safely without spoofing risks
- map Cloudflare and Vercel quota limits to subscription tiers

## Example prompts
- Design tenant data isolation with PostgreSQL and RLS
- Configure custom domain lifecycle and routing for a Next.js app on Vercel
- How do I structure the domain strategy and prepare a Public Suffix List submission?

# Multi-Tenant Platform Architecture (Cloudflare or Vercel)

- **IS:** platform choice, domain strategy and PSL, tenant identification, compute and data isolation, hostname routing, tenant context propagation, custom domains and SSL, per-tenant static files, and mapping platform limits to plans.
- **IS NOT:** general folder structure or module contracts (use `codebase-architecture`), scaffolding a new repo (use `scaffold-nextjs`), or the content of per-tenant SEO files once routing serves them dynamically: sitemap entries, canonical URLs, structured data, indexing policy (use `seo`).

## Platform dispatch (decide first)

| Signals | Platform | Model |
|---------|----------|-------|
| Tenants upload or generate their own code; code-level isolation; edge compute on KV, D1, Durable Objects, R2 | Cloudflare | Dispatch Worker in front of a dispatch namespace of per-tenant Workers; Cloudflare for SaaS for custom hostnames |
| Every tenant runs the same Next.js codebase and differs by content, branding, and plan; ISR, Server Components, Vercel deploys | Vercel | One deployment; `proxy.ts` resolves the tenant from the hostname; wildcard plus custom domains on the project |

- Pick one platform per product. Fronting a Vercel app with a Cloudflare proxy doubles the TLS and redirect layers and is the usual cause of redirect loops and failed certificate issuance.
- Tenants shipping their own code on Vercel is the multi-project model (one Vercel project per tenant, created with the SDK). It follows the Cloudflare row's isolation reasoning; this skill's Vercel references cover the single-deployment model only.
