# msw-search

Search MSW API references and guides, or look up sprites, animations, sounds, resource packs, and avatars. Use it when .d.mlua lacks the detail you need or you need an RUID.

## What it does

This skill routes requests to two search paths: vector lookup through the `msw-mcp` MCP server for API material, and a REST API for game assets. API results can include explanations, code samples, and related methods. Asset lookup covers sprites, animations, sounds, resource packs, and avatars, including searches for RUIDs.

When you know an API name, check `.d.mlua` first for signatures, types, and properties. For more context, the skill uses `mlua_api_retriever`; for implementation guidance and patterns, it uses `mlua_document_retriever`. Asset searches begin with `resource_pack` by default, then narrow down to individual RUIDs inside the pack. Search examples use Maker Editor syntax, so convert them before putting the code in a `.mlua` file.

The documentation search depends on `msw-mcp` tools. If a call fails, the skill falls back to `.d.mlua` rather than guessing, so detailed API material may not be available through that search path.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MSW-Git/msw-ai-coding-plugins-official --skill msw-search -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/msw-search/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/msw-search/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MSW-Git/msw-ai-coding-plugins-official --skill msw-search -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/msw-search/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MSW-Git/msw-ai-coding-plugins-official --skill msw-search -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/msw-search/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install MSW-Git/msw-ai-coding-plugins-official msw-search
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/msw-search/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MSW-Git/msw-ai-coding-plugins-official --skill msw-search -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/MSW-Git/msw-ai-coding-plugins-official --path plugins/msw-maker-base-skill/skills/msw-search
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/msw-search/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MSW-Git/msw-ai-coding-plugins-official --skill msw-search -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/MSW-Git/msw-ai-coding-plugins-official/tree/HEAD/plugins/msw-maker-base-skill/skills/msw-search/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- look up an API usage example
- inspect method parameters beyond a signature
- find a guide for implementing a feature
- locate a resource pack for a monster or background
- retrieve a sprite or sound RUID

## Example prompts
- Find an example for `AttackComponent` and its related APIs.
- Search for a guide to building an inventory system.
- Find a resource pack for a monster and list suitable sprite RUIDs.
