A skill that drives Puppeteer scripts from the shell: screenshots, clicks, form filling, Core Web Vitals and network inspection.

## What it does

The skill ships executable Puppeteer scripts, and every one of them prints JSON, so `jq` slots straight into the pipeline. `navigate.js` loads a URL, `screenshot.js` captures a full page or a single element, `click.js` and `fill.js` handle forms, `evaluate.js` runs your own JavaScript inside the page. For inspection there is `snapshot.js` (interactive elements plus metadata), `console.js`, `network.js`, and `performance.js` with Core Web Vitals and trace recording.

Scripts live in `.claude/skills/chrome-devtools/scripts/`, and you have to be in that directory before running anything. The authors flag the `pwd` check as critical, because a wrong working directory sends output files somewhere else. On Linux and WSL the system libraries come first via `./install-deps.sh`, then `npm install` pulls puppeteer, debug and yargs. macOS and Windows skip the first step.

Screenshots above 5MB get compressed automatically, provided ImageMagick is present. Without it a large PNG stays large and may fail to load in Gemini or Claude, so installing `imagemagick` up front is the safer move. The threshold is adjustable with `--max-size`, and `--no-compress` turns the whole thing off.

Chaining works through `--close false`: the browser stays alive between calls, which is how a multi-step login gets built. When a selector misses, run `snapshot.js` to see what the page actually contains, then fall back to an XPath expression.

## Requirements
- Works with: Chrome

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mrgoonie/claudekit-skills --skill chrome-devtools -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/chrome-devtools/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/chrome-devtools/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mrgoonie/claudekit-skills --skill chrome-devtools -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/chrome-devtools/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mrgoonie/claudekit-skills --skill chrome-devtools -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/chrome-devtools/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mrgoonie/claudekit-skills chrome-devtools
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/chrome-devtools/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mrgoonie/claudekit-skills --skill chrome-devtools -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mrgoonie/claudekit-skills --path .claude/skills/chrome-devtools
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/chrome-devtools/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mrgoonie/claudekit-skills --skill chrome-devtools -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/mrgoonie/claudekit-skills/tree/HEAD/.claude/skills/chrome-devtools/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- capture a page screenshot into `./docs/screenshots`
- fill a login form and submit it without manual clicking
- pull headings and links out of a product listing
- measure LCP and compare it against a threshold
- collect console errors from the first seconds of load

## Example prompts
- Take a screenshot of `https://example.com` and save it to `./docs/screenshots/page.png`
- Open the login page, fill `#email` and `#password`, then click the submit button
- Measure Core Web Vitals for `https://example.com` and report the LCP value

# Chrome DevTools Agent Skill

Browser automation via executable Puppeteer scripts. All scripts output JSON for easy parsing.

## Quick Start

**CRITICAL**: Always check `pwd` before running scripts.

### Installation

#### Step 1: Install System Dependencies (Linux/WSL only)

On Linux/WSL, Chrome requires system libraries. Install them first:

```bash
pwd  # Should show current working directory
cd .claude/skills/chrome-devtools/scripts
./install-deps.sh  # Auto-detects OS and installs required libs
```

Supports: Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, RHEL, CentOS, Arch, Manjaro

**macOS/Windows**: Skip this step (dependencies bundled with Chrome)

#### Step 2: Install Node Dependencies

```bash
npm install  # Installs puppeteer, debug, yargs
```

#### Step 3: Install ImageMagick (Optional, Recommended)

ImageMagick enables automatic screenshot compression to keep files under 5MB:

**macOS:**
```bash
brew install imagemagick
```

**Ubuntu/Debian/WSL:**
```bash
sudo apt-get install imagemagick
```

**Verify:**
```bash
magick -version  # or: convert -version
```

Without ImageMagick, screenshots >5MB will not be compressed (may fail to load in Gemini/Claude).

### Test
```bash
node navigate.js --url https://example.com
# Output: {"success": true, "url": "https://example.com", "title": "Example Domain"}
```

## Available Scripts

All scripts are in `.claude/skills/chrome-devtools/scripts/`

**CRITICAL**: Always check `pwd` before running scripts.

### Script Usage
- `./scripts/README.md`

### Core Automation
- `navigate.js` - Navigate to URLs
- `screenshot.js` - Capture screenshots (full page or element)
- `click.js` - Click elements
- `fill.js` - Fill form fields
- `evaluate.js` - Execute JavaScript in page context

### Analysis & Monitoring
- `snapshot.js` - Extract interactive elements with metadata
