## What it does

The skill takes a ready recipe for one effect and rebuilds it with your words, colours and typeface. There are 16 effects in four groups: interfaces (button into player, search into results, card into workspace, tabs into panels), data (chart morph, dashboard zoom, spring stack, magnetic dock), type (masked type, elastic type, text to layout, image reveal) and systems (perspective shift, glass focus, flowing paths, particle logo).

Before building, the skill asks for four things: the effect by name or number, the real words and figures, the frame size (1080 x 1080, 1080 x 1350, 1080 x 1920 or 1920 x 1080), and whether it loops or holds on the last frame. Then it reads the recipe in `references/effects.md` — start state, end state, timing, and the one detail that makes the result look premium. The output is a self-contained `effect.html` with `window.seek(seconds)`, no `setTimeout`, no unseeded randomness, so any frame can be drawn in any order.

One requirement trips people up: the skill expects `brand.md` and `MOTION.md`, and if those files are missing it wants `brand-intake` run first, or hex codes, a font and a logo file. Without them the result is not treated as on-brand. Before showing anything, the skill captures frames at 0, 1, 2.2, 4.4, 6.6, 7.9 and 8 seconds and checks that frames 0 and 8 match, that the still at 4.4 reads on its own, and that no text overflows its box.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add charlie947/motion-graphics-skills --skill motion-effects -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/motion-effects/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/motion-effects/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add charlie947/motion-graphics-skills --skill motion-effects -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/motion-effects/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add charlie947/motion-graphics-skills --skill motion-effects -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/motion-effects/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install charlie947/motion-graphics-skills motion-effects
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/motion-effects/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add charlie947/motion-graphics-skills --skill motion-effects -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/charlie947/motion-graphics-skills --path skills/motion-effects
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/motion-effects/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add charlie947/motion-graphics-skills --skill motion-effects -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/charlie947/motion-graphics-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/motion-effects/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a looping clip for a post from real figures
- turn a landing-page button into a video player
- pull the one KPI that matters out of a dashboard
- reveal a campaign headline with masked type
- export the finished effect to MP4 and GIF

## Example prompts
- Build effect 05, chart morph, on my weekly numbers, 1080 x 1080, loop
- Make effect 01, button to player, with my headline, 1920 x 1080, hold on the last frame
- Take effect 16, particle logo, here is my logo and brand colours

# Motion effects, built in your brand

Sixteen effects that make a product, a number or a word move like it was made by a motion designer. Each one is a recipe: what it is, where it starts, where it ends, when each part moves inside an 8-second loop, and the one detail that makes it look premium. You pick the effect, give it your real words, and it gets built from scratch in your colours and type.

**Before you start:** read `brand.md` and `MOTION.md` if they exist. If not, run `brand-intake` first, or ask for hex codes, a font and a logo file. Never call a result on-brand without them.

## Step 1: Ask for four things, then wait

1. **The effect.** One of the 16 by name or number. If they describe a job instead ("show our pricing", "reveal the launch name"), suggest the two effects from the table below that fit best and let them pick.
2. **The real content.** The words, labels and numbers that go in it. Real figures, or say they are samples.
3. **The size.** 1080 x 1080 (square), 1080 x 1350 (LinkedIn portrait), 1080 x 1920 (Reel) or 1920 x 1080 (YouTube).
4. **Loop or hold.** Loop repeats forever (a post or a GIF). Hold plays once and stays on the finished frame (under a voiceover, so it never resets mid-sentence).

| # | Effect | Use it when you |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Button → player | add a "watch the demo" moment to a landing page or launch email |
| 02 | Search → results | show what people find in your help centre or content library |
```
