## What it does

The skill scrapes recent posts for each hashtag through the `apidojo/instagram-scraper` actor on Apify, then averages likes and comments per post, estimates post volume, and produces an opportunity score — engagement measured against competition. Tags land in three tiers: above 1M posts, 100K to 1M, and under 100K. You get a metrics table plus a recommended set split 5 broad, 10 mid-tier, 10 niche.

Runs go through `node scripts/run_actor.js` with `--actor "apidojo~instagram-scraper"`, and output can be saved as CSV or JSON. There is also an Apify MCP server path and a REST API fallback. All of them need `APIFY_TOKEN` in the environment or a `.env` file — nothing runs without it.

A hashtag that returns 0 posts gets flagged as banned and dropped from the strategy. Tags under 1K posts come back marked as low-data, since there is not enough to measure. The same post can show up under several tags, so duplicates are collapsed before engagement is calculated; skip that and the numbers run high.

# Monitoring Instagram Hashtag Trends

Analyzes hashtag performance on Instagram to identify which tags drive the best engagement for a content category. Builds a tiered hashtag strategy (broad/mid/niche) based on actual post data.

## Prerequisites

- `APIFY_TOKEN` environment variable set
- Optional: Apify MCP server installed

## Inputs

| Parameter | Type | Required | Default | Notes |
|-----------|------|----------|---------|-------|
| `startUrls` | array | ✅ | `[]` | Instagram URLs — profiles, hashtags, locations, audio pages, reels |
| `until` | string | Optional | — | Scrape posts until this date (YYYY-MM-DD) |
| `maxItems` | number | Optional | Unlimited | Maximum posts to return |
| `customMapFunction` | string | Optional | — | JavaScript function to transform each output object |

## Workflow

```
Progress:
- [ ] Step 1: Scrape recent posts for each hashtag
- [ ] Step 2: Calculate per-hashtag metrics
- [ ] Step 3: Tier hashtags by competition/opportunity
- [ ] Step 4: Build recommended hashtag set
```

### Step 1: Scrape Hashtags

**Recommended — run_actor.js (handles waiting, output, and file saving automatically):**
```bash
# Quick answer (prints table to chat)
node scripts/run_actor.js \
  --actor "apidojo~instagram-scraper" \
  --input '{"param": "value"}'
# Save as CSV
node scripts/run_actor.js \
  --actor "apidojo~instagram-scraper" \
  --input '{"param": "value"}' \
  --output YYYY-MM-DD_results.csv --format csv
# Save as JSON
node scripts/run_actor.js \
