## What it does

The skill hands the agent a set of principles plus ready patterns: fluid type with `clamp()`, `oklch()` palettes, hover and press states, scroll triggers, custom cursors, glass cards. Code samples cover CSS, Framer Motion and GSAP ScrollTrigger, so you can start from them instead of a blank file.

Performance gets its own section. It lists Core Web Vitals targets (LCP under 2.5s, FID under 100ms, CLS under 0.1, INP under 200ms) and tells you to defer non-critical animation, lazy-load images and 3D content. For cursors the guidance is strict: CSS transforms only, disable on touch devices, respect `prefers-reduced-motion`.

This is a meta-skill. It points at animation skills (GSAP, Framer Motion, React Spring), 3D skills (Three.js, R3F, Babylon.js) and component libraries, but ships none of them. On a plain CSS project with no JS animation, a good chunk of the material goes unused.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --skill modern-web-design -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/modern-web-design/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/modern-web-design/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --skill modern-web-design -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/modern-web-design/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --skill modern-web-design -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/modern-web-design/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install freshtechbro/claudedesignskills modern-web-design
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/modern-web-design/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --skill modern-web-design -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --path plugins/bundles/meta-skills/skills/modern-web-design
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/modern-web-design/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --skill modern-web-design -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/freshtechbro/claudedesignskills/tree/HEAD/plugins/bundles/meta-skills/skills/modern-web-design/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a type scale that scales with viewport width
- add micro-interactions to buttons and form fields
- wire up a parallax scroll section with pinned panels
- ship a custom cursor without tanking frame rate
- audit an interface against Core Web Vitals

## Example prompts
- Build this landing page using modern-web-design principles: fluid typography and bold minimalism
- Add Framer Motion micro-interactions to the buttons, following the skill
- Create a pinned scroll section with GSAP ScrollTrigger

# Modern Web Design

## Overview

Modern web design in 2024-2025 emphasizes performance, accessibility, and meaningful interactions. This skill provides comprehensive guidance on current design trends, implementation patterns, and best practices for creating engaging, accessible, and performant web experiences.

This meta-skill synthesizes knowledge from all animation, interaction, and 3D skills in this repository to provide holistic design guidance.

## Core Design Principles (2024-2025)

### 1. Performance-First Design

**Philosophy**: Design decisions should prioritize Core Web Vitals and user experience on all devices.

**Key Metrics**:
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): < 2.5s
- First Input Delay (FID): < 100ms
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): < 0.1
- Interaction to Next Paint (INP): < 200ms

**Implementation Guidelines**:
- Defer non-critical animations until after page load
- Use CSS transforms/opacity for animations (GPU-accelerated)
- Implement lazy loading for images, videos, and 3D content
- Progressive enhancement: core content without JavaScript

**Related Skills**: `gsap-scrolltrigger`, `motion-framer`, `lottie-animations` for optimized animations

### 2. Bold Minimalism

**Characteristics**:
- Large, impactful typography (clamp() for fluid sizing)
- Ample white space (negative space as design element)
- Limited color palettes (3-5 primary colors)
- Intentional use of bold accent colors
- Geometric shapes and clean lines

**Typography Scale** (Modern fluid system):
```css
/* Fluid typography using clamp() */
--font-size-xs: clamp(0.75rem, 0.7rem + 0.25vw, 0.875rem);
--font-size-sm: clamp(0.875rem, 0.8rem + 0.375vw, 1rem);
--font-size-base: clamp(1rem, 0.9rem + 0.5vw, 1.25rem);
--font-size-lg: clamp(1.25rem, 1.1rem + 0.75vw, 1.75rem);
--font-size-xl: clamp(1.75rem, 1.5rem + 1.25vw, 2.5rem);
--font-size-2xl: clamp(2.5rem, 2rem + 2.5vw, 4rem);
--font-size-3xl: clamp(3.5rem, 2.5rem + 5vw, 6rem);
```
