## What it does

This skill guides coding agents through cross-platform development with React Native and Expo using TypeScript. It provides project structures based on Expo Router, covering tabs and dynamic route layouts alongside reusable UI building blocks.

Guidance covers native hardware access, including `expo-camera` and biometric authentication. It also includes steps for bundle optimization and builds for TestFlight or Google Play.

The included patterns rely specifically on the Expo toolchain. In bare React Native projects without Expo, you will need to replace the router and module setups manually.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daffy0208/ai-dev-standards --skill mobile-developer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/mobile-developer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/mobile-developer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daffy0208/ai-dev-standards --skill mobile-developer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/mobile-developer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daffy0208/ai-dev-standards --skill mobile-developer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/mobile-developer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install daffy0208/ai-dev-standards mobile-developer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/mobile-developer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daffy0208/ai-dev-standards --skill mobile-developer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/daffy0208/ai-dev-standards --path skills/mobile-developer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/mobile-developer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daffy0208/ai-dev-standards --skill mobile-developer -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/daffy0208/ai-dev-standards/tree/HEAD/skills/mobile-developer/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- scaffold an Expo TypeScript project with file-based routing
- implement navigation using Expo Router tabs and dynamic screens
- integrate device hardware like cameras and biometric sensors
- prepare builds for TestFlight and Google Play distribution

## Example prompts
- Set up an Expo Router layout with bottom tabs and dynamic user routes
- Build a camera screen using Expo Camera with permission handling
- Create a reusable button component with loading and disabled states

# Mobile Developer Skill

I help you build cross-platform mobile apps with React Native and Expo.

## What I Do

**App Development:**

- React Native / Expo apps (iOS + Android)
- Navigation and routing
- State management
- API integration

**Native Features:**

- Camera, location, notifications
- Biometric authentication
- File system access
- Device sensors

**Performance:**

- Optimize bundle size
- Lazy loading
- Image optimization
- Memory management

**Distribution:**

- App Store / Google Play submission
- Over-the-air (OTA) updates
- Beta testing (TestFlight, internal testing)

## Quick Start: Expo App

### Create New App

```bash
# Create Expo app
npx create-expo-app my-app --template blank-typescript
cd my-app
# Install dependencies
npx expo install react-native-screens react-native-safe-area-context
npx expo install expo-router
# Start development
npx expo start
```

### Project Structure

```
my-app/
├── app/
│   ├── (tabs)/
│   │   ├── index.tsx          # Home tab
│   │   ├── profile.tsx        # Profile tab
│   │   └── _layout.tsx        # Tab layout
│   ├── users/
│   │   └── [id].tsx          # Dynamic route
│   ├── _layout.tsx           # Root layout
│   └── +not-found.tsx        # 404 page
├── components/
│   ├── Button.tsx
│   ├── Card.tsx
│   └── Loading.tsx
## Navigation with Expo Router
### Tab Navigation
```typescript
// app/(tabs)/_layout.tsx
import { Tabs } from 'expo-router'
import { Ionicons } from '@expo/vector-icons'

export default function TabLayout() {
  return (
    <Tabs
      screenOptions={{
        tabBarActiveTintColor: '#007AFF',
        headerShown: false
      }}
    >
      <Tabs.Screen
        name="index"
        options={{
          title: 'Home',
          tabBarIcon: ({ color, size }) => (
            <Ionicons name="home" size={size} color={color} />
          )
        }}
      />
      <Tabs.Screen
        name="profile"
        options={{
          title: 'Profile',
          tabBarIcon: ({ color, size }) => (
            <Ionicons name="person" size={size} color={color} />
          )
        }}
      />
    </Tabs>
  )
}
```
### Stack Navigation
```typescript
// app/users/[id].tsx
import { useLocalSearchParams } from 'expo-router'
import { View, Text } from 'react-native'

export default function UserDetail() {
  const { id } = useLocalSearchParams()

  return (
    <View>
      <Text>User ID: {id}</Text>
    </View>
  )
}
```
---
## UI Components
### Custom Button
```typescript
// components/Button.tsx
import { TouchableOpacity, Text, StyleSheet, ActivityIndicator } from 'react-native'

interface ButtonProps {
  title: string
  onPress: () => void
````
