## What it does

The skill describes how to use Weights & Biases during model training. It covers recording run settings and metrics, reviewing training progress, comparing experiments, and searching parameter combinations with sweeps. It also covers uploading models and other artifacts so their versions and lineage can be managed.

You need the `wandb` library and W&B authentication, set up with `wandb login` or the `WANDB_API_KEY` environment variable. W&B calls shown in the skill handle logging and checkpoint uploads; your project still supplies the training loop. Without an API key, you cannot authenticate to W&B.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --skill ai-research/mlops-weights-and-biases
```

2. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add davila7/claude-code-templates --skill mlops-weights-and-biases -a claude-code
```

3. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/mlops-weights-and-biases/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/mlops-weights-and-biases/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/mlops-weights-and-biases/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/mlops-weights-and-biases/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install davila7/claude-code-templates mlops-weights-and-biases
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/mlops-weights-and-biases/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates --path cli-tool/components/skills/ai-research/mlops-weights-and-biases
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/mlops-weights-and-biases/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/skills/ai-research/mlops-weights-and-biases

## When to use it
- log training metrics to W&B
- compare runs with different configurations
- search hyperparameters with sweeps
- upload model checkpoints as artifacts

## Example prompts
- Show me how to add W&B metric logging to my training loop.
- Help me compare model runs by their settings and results.
- Set up a sweep to search hyperparameters using a validation metric.
