## What it does

The skill lays out the training pipeline in phases: data preparation, feature engineering, model selection, hyperparameter tuning, cross-validation and getting a model ready for production. It covers algorithms per task — linear and ridge regression, random forest, gradient boosting, logistic regression, SVM, K-Means, DBSCAN, plus neural networks up to transformers.

The code example runs a full cycle on a synthetic dataset: a `train_test_split`, scaling with `StandardScaler`, then three scikit-learn models scored on accuracy, precision, recall, f1 and ROC AUC. From there it builds a PyTorch network with a `DataLoader` and Adam, a Keras model with dropout, and matplotlib charts comparing accuracy and loss curves.

You need `scikit-learn`, `pytorch`, `tensorflow`, `pandas` and `matplotlib` already installed — the skill does not pull them in. If your project has its own training pipeline, treat the examples as a reference to adapt rather than something to run as-is.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**

npx skills add aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts --skill ml-model-training -a claude-code
```
2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/ml-model-training/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/ml-model-training/
### Codex
1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts --skill ml-model-training -a codex
```
2. **Manually: put the files in place**
## When to use it
- compare several classification algorithms on one dataset
- build a PyTorch network for tabular data from scratch
- scale features and split data into train and test sets
- compute accuracy, precision, recall and ROC AUC for a model
- plot accuracy comparison and training loss curves
## Example prompts
- train RandomForest and GradientBoosting on my dataset and compare the metrics
- build a PyTorch network for binary classification on tabular data
- scale the features with StandardScaler and report ROC AUC
