## What it does

This skill covers the whole setup of Temporal task queue splitting in mirrord Operator. It produces two Kubernetes CRDs: `MirrordSplitConfig`, which ties a worker workload to the queues it polls, and `MirrordPropertyList`, which describes how the operator reaches the Temporal frontend. It also writes the `feature.split_queues` section of `mirrord.json`, with `message_filter` for task metadata and `jq_filter` for task content.

Reference files inside the skill document the fields of both CRDs. Before generating anything it inspects the cluster: current context, operator deployment, the two CRDs, and any Temporal service, then pulls container names and env vars from the worker pod spec. Read-only `kubectl get` and `kubectl config` calls it runs itself. Anything that changes the cluster — `kubectl apply`, `kubectl create`, `kubectl delete`, `helm install` — it hands back for you to review and run. Credentials go into a Secret created with `kubectl create secret generic ... --from-file=...`; `--from-literal` is off the table.

Temporal splitting is an alpha Team/Enterprise feature. It needs operator 3.170.0+, CLI 3.221.0+ and Kubernetes 1.30+ on the cluster doing the split. On an older cluster the CRDs are not registered at all, so the discovery step comes back empty and there is nothing to configure.

## Requirements
- Works with: Kubernetes

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add metalbear-co/skills --skill mirrord-temporal -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/mirrord-temporal/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/mirrord-temporal/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add metalbear-co/skills --skill mirrord-temporal -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/mirrord-temporal/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add metalbear-co/skills --skill mirrord-temporal -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/mirrord-temporal/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install metalbear-co/skills mirrord-temporal
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/mirrord-temporal/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add metalbear-co/skills --skill mirrord-temporal -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/metalbear-co/skills --path skills/mirrord-temporal
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/mirrord-temporal/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add metalbear-co/skills --skill mirrord-temporal -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/metalbear-co/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/mirrord-temporal/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- wire a worker to its Temporal task queues with `MirrordSplitConfig`
- describe the frontend connection: plaintext, TLS, mTLS or Temporal Cloud
- filter tasks by metadata or content using `message_filter` and `jq_filter`
- check generated YAML for required fields and cross-references
- debug a splitting session that will not come up

## Example prompts
- Set up Temporal queue splitting for the `orders-worker` deployment in namespace `prod`
- Generate `MirrordSplitConfig` and `MirrordPropertyList` for a Temporal Cloud connection
- Add a `split_queues` section to `mirrord.json` with a `jq_filter` on task content

# mirrord Temporal Splitting Configuration Skill

> Temporal splitting is configured with **`MirrordSplitConfig`** (which task queues to split + how the worker finds their names) and **`MirrordPropertyList`** (the Temporal frontend connection). Temporal has no native way to split a task queue, so the operator does it with a small gRPC proxy and virtual task queues — see "How it works" below. This is an **alpha** feature. Requires operator **3.170.0+**, CLI **3.221.0+**, and Kubernetes **1.30+** on the cluster running the split.

## Security Boundaries

> **IMPORTANT:** Follow these security rules for all operations in this skill.

- **No hardcoded credentials:** Never include actual Temporal Cloud API keys, TLS certificates, or private keys in generated `MirrordPropertyList` YAML. Reference a Kubernetes Secret with `valueFrom.secretKeyRef` per property.
- **Credential protection:** Never ask the user to share API keys, certificates, or key material with the agent. Instruct them to create Kubernetes Secrets themselves and reference them by name.
- **Secret creation guidance:** When telling the user to create a Secret, instruct `kubectl create secret generic ... --from-file=...` reading values from files (then delete the files). Do **not** suggest `--from-literal` for credential values — it exposes secrets in argv/shell history.
