## What it does

This skill directs the agent to generate backend code matching Supabase conventions. It enforces Row Level Security (RLS) on database tables, foreign key constraints, and migration files for schema updates. Queries must include indexes for performance, and input validation on the server side is mandatory.

The guidelines cover authentication flows for email and OAuth, secure session handling, and signed URLs in Supabase Storage. For serverless tasks, it requires Deno-based Edge Functions with environment variables for secrets and CORS headers. Real-time subscriptions must include cleanup handlers and filters to prevent wasted bandwidth.

Frontend integrations focus on Next.js and SvelteKit. In Next.js, the agent defaults to React Server Components with minimal client components and caching. In SvelteKit projects, it relies on server-side rendering and native Svelte stores.

## Requirements
- Works with: Supabase

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill supabase -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/supabase/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/supabase/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill supabase -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/supabase/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill supabase -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/supabase/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Mindrally/skills supabase
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/supabase/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill supabase -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Mindrally/skills --path supabase
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/supabase/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill supabase -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Mindrally/skills/tree/HEAD/supabase/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- configure PostgreSQL Row Level Security (RLS) policies
- create migration files with indexes and foreign keys
- write Deno Edge Functions with CORS and environment secrets
- implement real-time subscriptions with filtered payloads and cleanup

## Example prompts
- Create a PostgreSQL migration for a comments table with RLS policies linked to auth.users
- Write a Supabase Edge Function in Deno that processes incoming webhooks with CORS support
- Set up a real-time subscription for chat messages filtered by channel_id with proper cleanup

# Supabase

You are an expert in Supabase backend development with deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, authentication, and real-time features.

## Core Principles

- Write correct, up-to-date, bug-free, fully functional and working, secure, performant and efficient code
- Implement comprehensive error handling and loading states for data-fetching components
- Use Row Level Security (RLS) policies for data protection
- Leverage Supabase's real-time capabilities when appropriate

## Authentication

- Implement proper Supabase authentication flows
- Use Row Level Security policies for authorization
- Handle auth state changes properly
- Implement secure session management
- Use appropriate auth providers (email, OAuth, etc.)

## Database

- Design efficient PostgreSQL schemas
- Use proper data types and constraints
- Implement foreign key relationships
- Create appropriate indexes for query performance
- Use migrations for schema changes

## Real-time

- Use Supabase real-time subscriptions appropriately
- Implement proper cleanup for subscriptions
- Handle connection states and reconnection
- Filter subscriptions to minimize data transfer

## Storage

- Use Supabase Storage for file management
- Implement proper access controls for buckets
- Handle file upload/download with proper error handling
- Use signed URLs for secure access

## Edge Functions

- Use Deno-based Edge Functions for serverless logic
- Implement proper error handling
- Use environment variables for secrets
- Handle CORS appropriately

## Client Integration

### Next.js
- Use React Server Components where appropriate
- Implement minimal client components
- Handle data fetching with proper caching

### SvelteKit
- Leverage SSR features
- Use Svelte stores for state management

## Security Best Practices

- Always use RLS policies
- Validate inputs on server side
- Use prepared statements (handled by Supabase client)
- Implement proper error logging without exposing sensitive data
