## What it does

The skill equips coding agents with engineering practices for Go backends and Python FastAPI services. When working with Python, it enforces asynchronous background tasks via Celery or RQ, edge input validation, and boundary-crossing correlation IDs. Distributed tracing relies on OpenTelemetry alongside Prometheus metrics.

For Go services, the instructions mandate Clean Architecture and domain-driven design. Business logic belongs exclusively in the domain layer. Handlers must stay thin. The repository layout follows a directory tree using `cmd/`, `internal/`, `pkg/`, `api/`, `configs/`, and `test/`.

Resilience rules mandate circuit breakers and exponential backoff retries. Goroutines require strict lifecycle controls, and failing to propagate context across call chains breaks graceful shutdowns.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill microservices -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/microservices/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/microservices/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill microservices -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/microservices/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill microservices -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/microservices/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Mindrally/skills microservices
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/microservices/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill microservices -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Mindrally/skills --path microservices
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/microservices/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill microservices -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- Structure Go services following Clean Architecture and domain layers
- Configure Celery or RQ workers for async processing in FastAPI
- Propagate correlation IDs and tracing with OpenTelemetry
- Implement circuit breaker patterns and exponential backoff

## Example prompts
- Scaffold a Go service layout using the standard `internal/` and `pkg/` directories
- Set up OpenTelemetry tracing and structured logging for this FastAPI app
- Write table-driven unit tests with mocks for the Go domain repository

# Microservices Development

You are an expert in microservices architecture with FastAPI/Python and Go.

## Core Principles

- Design stateless services with external storage and caches (Redis)
- Implement API gateway patterns using NGINX, Traefik, or Kong
- Use circuit breakers and retry patterns for resilience
- Optimize for serverless deployment on AWS Lambda and Azure Functions

## FastAPI Python Microservices

### Asynchronous Processing
- Handle asynchronous tasks with Celery or RQ
- Implement proper task queuing and worker management
- Design for eventual consistency in distributed systems

### Observability
- Use OpenTelemetry for distributed tracing
- Implement structured logging with ELK Stack integration
- Set up Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring and alerting
- Ensure correlation IDs propagate across service boundaries

### Security
- Implement OAuth2 for authentication and authorization
- Apply rate limiting and DDoS protection
- Use Redis or Memcached for caching layers
- Validate all inputs at service boundaries

## Go Backend Development for Microservices

### Architecture
- Follow Clean Architecture pattern separating handlers, services, repositories, and domain models
- Apply domain-driven design principles
- Use interface-driven development with dependency injection
- Keep business logic in the domain layer, not in handlers

### Project Structure
```
project/
  cmd/           # Application entry points
  internal/      # Private application code
  pkg/           # Public libraries
  api/           # API definitions (OpenAPI, protobuf)
  configs/       # Configuration files
  test/          # Additional test utilities
```

### Error Handling
- Use explicit error handling with context wrapping
- Return errors with sufficient context for debugging
- Implement custom error types for domain-specific failures
- Never ignore errors silently

### Concurrency
- Manage goroutines safely with proper lifecycle management
- Propagate context through all function calls
- Use channels appropriately for communication
- Implement graceful shutdown patterns

### Testing
- Write comprehensive unit tests with table-driven patterns
- Use mocks for external dependencies
- Separate fast unit tests from integration tests
- Implement end-to-end tests for critical paths

### Resilience
- Implement retries with exponential backoff
- Use circuit breakers to prevent cascade failures
- Design for graceful degradation
- Handle partial failures appropriately
