# setup-pstack

Picks a model for every pstack role, detects what your session actually offers, and writes the override sheet.

## What it does

Every pstack skill names its default models inline. `setup-pstack` gathers those defaults into one per-role override sheet for the runtime you are on. It starts by enumerating the model names the `Agent` tool's `model` parameter accepts in this session, then shows each role with its current value and asks what to change.

You also set a `default effort` line: either `session`, which keeps the parent session's reasoning effort, or one of the levels. A single role can carry its own level after the slug, as in `opus @xhigh`. The aliases `inherit-parent` and `auto` run a role on the parent session's model, which the `Agent` call expresses by omitting `model`. The sheet is overwritten whole, so re-runs stay idempotent.

There is a `session hook` switch too. On Claude and Codex the `SessionStart` hook injects the poteto-mode mandate on startup, resume, clear, and compact, and it is on by default. Codex makes you trust plugin hooks through `/hooks` first. Claude has no auto-applied rules mechanism like Cursor's `.mdc`, so you add a line such as `@<config>/pstack-models.md` to `<config>/CLAUDE.md` or your project `CLAUDE.md` yourself. Skip that and the sheet never loads as context.

Older sheets that name full IDs starting with `claude-` get rewritten to the family name, because the `Agent` tool rejects them. Lines for retired roles are dropped.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add michael-denyer/pstack-claude --skill setup-pstack -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/setup-pstack/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/setup-pstack/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add michael-denyer/pstack-claude --skill setup-pstack -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/setup-pstack/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add michael-denyer/pstack-claude --skill setup-pstack -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/setup-pstack/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install michael-denyer/pstack-claude setup-pstack
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/setup-pstack/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add michael-denyer/pstack-claude --skill setup-pstack -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/michael-denyer/pstack-claude --path plugins/pstack/skills/setup-pstack
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/setup-pstack/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add michael-denyer/pstack-claude --skill setup-pstack -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- assign models per pstack role without editing every SKILL.md
- find out which model names the `Agent` tool accepts in this session
- give one role its own reasoning effort without changing the session
- turn off the `SessionStart` hook when the poteto-mode mandate is unwanted
- repair an old sheet full of `claude-` IDs that `Agent` rejects

## Example prompts
- Configure pstack models for what I have access to
- Set arena runners to opus, fable and sonnet
- Turn the session hook off in the pstack sheet

On Codex, read the [platform mapping](../poteto-mode/references/codex-tools.md), including its per-skill notes, before following this skill.

On GitHub Copilot, read the [platform mapping](../poteto-mode/references/copilot-tools.md), including its per-skill notes, before following this skill.

On Muse, read the [platform mapping](../poteto-mode/references/muse-tools.md), including its per-skill notes, before following this skill.

On GitHub Copilot, follow [the Copilot setup](copilot.md) in place of steps 1, 3, 4, and 7 and step 6's header.

On another runtime, read [Other runtimes](#other-runtimes) below for where the sheet lives and how it loads; the steps are the same.

Write the current runtime's per-role model override sheet, using the path in [Other runtimes](#other-runtimes). Each pstack skill names a default model inline; the override sheet adapts those defaults to the models you actually have access to.

Claude Code has no auto-applied "rules" mechanism like Cursor's `.mdc`. The Claude Code config directory is `$CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR` when that variable is set and `~/.claude` otherwise. This skill calls it `<config>`. Inclusion is explicit: the user adds a line to `<config>/CLAUDE.md` (or their project `CLAUDE.md`) such as:

```text
@<config>/pstack-models.md
```

with `<config>` written as the resolved path, so the file is loaded as context for every session.

The Codex home directory is `$CODEX_HOME` when that variable is set and `~/.codex` otherwise. This skill calls it `<codex-home>`.
