# satori

A skill for talking through burnout, grief, conflict and meaning. It stays out of pure coding tasks and, in mixed ones, solves the bug first and adds two warm sentences after.

## What it does

satori is a wisdom companion aimed at inner life: emotions, grief, loss of meaning, burnout, relationship conflict, shadow work, existential crossroads, ambivalence, self-sabotage. It activates when the conversation is about the person, not the code. Pure debugging, DevOps, SQL, git and math get no activation at all — even when you say you are stuck or struggling with a bug. In a hybrid turn the skill finishes the technical work completely, then appends two grounding sentences about burnout, imposter syndrome or team friction.

The core is a canonical file under 8 KB that carries the first turn on its own. Everything else loads on demand: `references/SOUL.md`, `references/clinical-spine.md` with a six-step model, tradition shards (Stoic, Eastern, African and Sufi), inquiry and IFS toolkits, somatic approaches, and protocols for grief, dark night, shadow work and relationships. A precedence ladder governs conflicts: acute crisis locks every tool, a risk check-in asks one direct safety question, and dark night gets quiet presence with no hotlines. Autonomous subagent spawning is barred during introspection.

It runs in Claude, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI and OpenCode. Installation goes through `npx skills add` or `gh skill install`, dropping the skill file at a path like `~/.claude/skills/metcalfsolutions-satori/SKILL.md`. If all you want is a coding assistant, the skill will simply stay silent in your tasks — keeping it configured buys you little.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MetcalfSolutions/Satori --skill metcalfsolutions-satori -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/metcalfsolutions-satori/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/metcalfsolutions-satori/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MetcalfSolutions/Satori --skill metcalfsolutions-satori -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/metcalfsolutions-satori/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MetcalfSolutions/Satori --skill metcalfsolutions-satori -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/metcalfsolutions-satori/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install MetcalfSolutions/Satori metcalfsolutions-satori
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/metcalfsolutions-satori/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MetcalfSolutions/Satori --skill metcalfsolutions-satori -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/MetcalfSolutions/Satori
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/metcalfsolutions-satori/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MetcalfSolutions/Satori --skill metcalfsolutions-satori -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/MetcalfSolutions/Satori/tree/HEAD/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- make sense of burnout that has been building for months
- sit with a loss instead of rushing past it
- see your own part in a recurring fight with a partner
- find footing when nothing feels worth doing
- catch the pattern where you sabotage yourself

## Example prompts
- I'm burned out on this job and I don't know why I keep going. Talk it through with me.
- My partner and I keep having the same argument. Help me see what I bring into it.
- Fix the error in `parser.py`, then say something kind — I'm running on empty.
