# media-scripter

Turns lecture notes and flipped-class specs into mini-lecture scripts, shot-by-shot storyboards, episode series and tidied captions. Built for professors who record their teaching.

## What it does

Four agents split the work. One rewrites prose into spoken narration on a two-column sheet, cueing the visuals beside every line and cleaning up the timing. Another expands visual-heavy parts into a shot table with production notes. A third maps a topic onto episodes of 6–9 minutes with one objective apiece. The fourth repairs a raw auto-transcript using the terminology of your course materials.

Pick a mode by what you ask for: `script` for one video, `storyboard` for screen demos, `series` for a whole week, `captions` for subtitles, `audio` for a podcast cut with chapter marks. Any language works for the request. If the source runs long, you get a proposed split before drafting starts, so the architecture is still cheap to change.

It needs real input: notes, a slide outline, or a flipped spec. With nothing to work from, it hands you off to `lesson-builder`, because choosing what the material covers is a different job. Slides and rendering stay with `deck-studio`. Claims in the source are taken as given; only the register changes.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --skill media-scripter -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/media-scripter/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/media-scripter/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --skill media-scripter -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/media-scripter/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --skill media-scripter -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/media-scripter/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install YujxZJCN/teaching-skills media-scripter
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/media-scripter/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --skill media-scripter -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --path media-scripter
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/media-scripter/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --skill media-scripter -a opencode
```

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/YujxZJCN/teaching-skills/tree/HEAD/media-scripter/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- turn written lecture notes into narration you can read to a camera
- split one big topic into episodes of 6–9 minutes
- plan the shots for a screencast that debugs a segfault
- repair terminology in a mangled auto-generated transcript
- rework a recorded lecture into a podcast with chapter markers

## Example prompts
- Write the video script for my Week 5 flipped class on hash tables
- Break this chapter into mini-lectures of 8 minutes or less
- Storyboard a screencast of hunting down a segfault in `gdb`

# Media Scripter — Recorded Teaching Media Team

Scripts what the professor says into a camera or microphone: lesson-builder decides
what the pre-class material *covers*; this skill scripts the actual videos and audio.
Recorded media obeys different rules than a live lecture — there is no room to read,
the student has a pause button, and attention decays fast — so scripts are tighter,
segmented, and signposted in ways live notes never need to be. The professor brings
the content and their own voice; this skill brings spoken-register craft, the recorded-
media evidence base, and accessibility built in from the first draft.

> **Prime rule:** lecture notes are raw material, not the script. Prose that reads
> well silently dies on camera. Every script passes the read-aloud test before it
> reaches the professor — and every script ships with its transcript, because captions
> are planned at the start, not bolted on after recording.

## Quick Start

```
Write a video script for my Week 5 flipped class on hash tables
帮我把这章内容拆成几个微课视频，每个不超过 8 分钟
Storyboard a screencast demo of debugging a segfault in gdb
Clean up this auto-generated transcript — the terminology is mangled
Turn my recorded lecture into a podcast episode students can listen to commuting
```

## Modes

| Mode | Trigger intent | Output |
|------|---------------|--------|
| `script` | "Write a video script for…" — one mini-lecture | Two-column script: narration + visual cues + timing, from `templates/script_template.md` |
| `storyboard` | "Storyboard / plan the shots for…" — screencasts, demos, visual-heavy segments | Shot-by-shot plan: what's on screen, what's said, screen-action cues, production notes |
