## What it does

The skill takes a landing page, email, ad, or tagline and pulls out every claim in it. Each one gets classified: puffery, factual, comparative, implied, absolute. Anything that isn't puffery goes through a substantiation check with a suggested fix.

It works from the standards in `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/product-legal/CLAUDE.md`: comparative claims policy, what counts as substantiation, and the claims the team has rejected before. Before clearing copy it researches the operative advertising rules for the relevant jurisdictions and media, and tags every citation with its source tier. If a legal research query comes back thin, it reports what it found and stops rather than filling the gap from general knowledge.

Citations map to specific quoted claims. No endorsement or influencer content in the asset means the endorsement rules stay out of the output. Keep that in mind when you read the result: a short source list here means the load-bearing rules are visible, not that the review was shallow.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill marketing-claims-review -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/marketing-claims-review/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/marketing-claims-review/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill marketing-claims-review -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/marketing-claims-review/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill marketing-claims-review -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/marketing-claims-review/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install anthropics/claude-for-legal marketing-claims-review
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**

```
### Claude.ai
**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills
Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/anthropics/claude-for-legal/tree/HEAD/product-legal/skills/marketing-claims-review/SKILL.md
## When to use it
- find the claims in a landing page that need backup
- separate harmless puffery from a phrase that draws a competitor's demand letter
- check a comparative claim that names a competitor
- rewrite "enterprise-grade security" into something provable
- match copy against the company's own claims policy before it ships
## Example prompts
- /product-legal:marketing-claims-review [paste landing page copy]
- check these claims: "saves 5 hours per week", "trusted by 10,000 companies"
- can we say "the best way to manage your projects"?
## Matter context
**Matter context.** Check `## Matter workspaces` in the practice-level CLAUDE.md. If `Enabled` is `✗` (the default for in-house users), skip the rest of this paragraph — skills use practice-level context and the matter machinery is invisible. If enabled and there is no active matter, ask: "Which matter is this for? Run `/product-legal:matter-workspace switch <slug>` or say `practice-level`." Load the active matter's `matter.md` for matter-specific context and overrides. Write outputs to the matter folder at `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/product-legal/matters/<matter-slug>/`. Never read another matter's files unless `Cross-matter context` is `on`.
## Purpose
Marketing wants to say the product is the best. Legal needs it to be true, or at least not provably false. This skill finds the claims that will get a demand letter from a competitor or an inquiry from a regulator, and suggests how to keep the energy while fixing the exposure.
## Load standards
Read `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/product-legal/CLAUDE.md` → `## Marketing claims`:
- Comparative claims policy (allowed with substantiation / discouraged / never)
- Substantiation standard (what's required before a claim ships)
- Common rejected claims (learn from history)
## Research the applicable standards before clearing copy
