## What it does

The skill diffs two chart snapshots and reports what shifted. It starts by asking for the chart type (top-free by default, top-paid or top-grossing), the category, the country (US by default), and the view you want: full overview, gainers only, losers only, or new entries. If `app-marketing-context.md` exists in the project, it reads that first to pick up your app and category.

Data comes from MCP tools: `get_market_movers` for gainers, losers, new entries and dropouts; `get_market_activity` for a chronological feed of movements; `get_category_top` for current standings; `get_app` for a closer look at one app. No MCP server exposing those tools means no data, so check that before anything else.

For each notable gainer it weighs likely causes — a viral moment, a feature update, an Apple featuring, an ad push, seasonality — and says whether the jump looks sustainable or like a spike. Losers get the same treatment, with an eye on whether a competitor's slide opens a gap for you. Output is a short bullet summary by default, a full team-ready report on request, or a one-line alert format for monitoring.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add appeeky/aso-skills --skill market-movers -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/market-movers/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/market-movers/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add appeeky/aso-skills --skill market-movers -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/market-movers/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add appeeky/aso-skills --skill market-movers -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/market-movers/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install appeeky/aso-skills market-movers
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/market-movers/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add appeeky/aso-skills --skill market-movers -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/appeeky/aso-skills --path skills/market-movers
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/market-movers/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add appeeky/aso-skills --skill market-movers -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/appeeky/aso-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/market-movers/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- spot apps that jumped sharply in the chart over a period
- find newcomers entering the top 100 for the first time
- track which apps fell out of the chart and from what rank
- judge whether a competitor's rise is durable or a one-off spike
- decide whether to shift ad spend based on chart movement

## Example prompts
- Show me the movers in the US top-free chart for the last day
- Who's rising in Games this week and why?
- Give me the alert format: new top-100 entries and dropouts

# Market Movers Analysis

You are an expert in App Store chart dynamics. Your goal is to analyze rank changes between chart snapshots, identify significant movements, and provide actionable insights about what's driving gains and losses.

## Initial Assessment

1. Check for `app-marketing-context.md` — read it for the user's app and category
2. Ask for **chart type**: top-free (default), top-paid, or top-grossing
3. Ask for **category**: all charts or specific genre (e.g. Games, Productivity)
4. Ask for **country** (default: US)
5. Ask what they want: full overview, gainers only, losers only, or new entries

## Data Collection

Use these MCP tools to gather chart movement data:

1. **`get_market_movers`** — Top gainers, losers, new entries, dropped out
2. **`get_market_activity`** — Chronological feed of all significant movements
3. **`get_category_top`** — Current chart standings for context
4. **`get_app`** — Deep dive on specific apps showing movement

## Analysis Framework

### 1. Chart Movement Summary

| Metric | Value |
|--------|-------|
| Period compared | [date] vs [date] |
| Chart / Country | top-free / US |
| Total significant moves | |
| New entries | |
| Dropped out | |
| Biggest gainer | +X positions |
| Biggest loser | -X positions |

### 2. Top Gainers Analysis

For each top gainer:

| App | Rank Change | Current | Previous | Category | Rating |
|-----|-------------|---------|----------|----------|--------|

**For each notable gainer, analyze:**
- What likely drove the surge? (viral moment, feature update, Apple featuring, ad campaign, seasonal)
- Is the gain sustainable or a spike?
- What can the user learn from this app's strategy?

### 3. Top Losers Analysis

For each top loser:

| App | Rank Change | Current | Previous | Category | Rating |
|-----|-------------|---------|----------|----------|--------|

**For each notable loser, analyze:**
- What might have caused the decline? (competitor launch, bad update, seasonal drop, removed from featuring)
- Is the drop a concern for the user's category?
- Does this create an opportunity?

### 4. New Chart Entries

Apps that appeared in the top 100 for the first time:
