## What it does

The skill runs `market_breadth_analyzer.py` to fetch two public CSV datasets from GitHub Pages without requiring API keys. It calculates a composite score using six dimensions: 8MA and 200MA trend levels, moving average crossovers, cycle peaks and troughs, bearish signals, historical percentiles, and S&P 500 divergences. If any component lacks data, the script automatically redistributes its weight across the remaining metrics.

Results arrive as both JSON and Markdown reports. The output maps the score into five health zones ranging from Critical (0–19) to Strong (80–100), paired with suggested equity exposure levels. It also tracks historical trends across multiple runs and flags data older than 5 days.

Execution requires Python 3.9+ and `requests`. Mind the directory handling: when running scheduled cron jobs with nested `--output-dir` arguments, create the folder beforehand with `mkdir -p` because the history writer expects it to exist.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --skill market-breadth-analyzer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/market-breadth-analyzer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/market-breadth-analyzer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --skill market-breadth-analyzer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/market-breadth-analyzer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --skill market-breadth-analyzer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/market-breadth-analyzer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install tradermonty/claude-trading-skills market-breadth-analyzer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/market-breadth-analyzer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --skill market-breadth-analyzer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --path skills/market-breadth-analyzer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/market-breadth-analyzer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --skill market-breadth-analyzer -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/tradermonty/claude-trading-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/market-breadth-analyzer/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- calculate a 0-100 composite market breadth score
- determine recommended equity exposure based on market health
- detect price divergence between the S&P 500 and breadth metrics
- track breadth cycle status across historical peaks and troughs

## Example prompts
- How healthy is market breadth right now?
- Is the current market rally broad-based? Run market-breadth-analyzer
- Assess market participation rate and give me the recommended equity exposure

description: Quantifies market breadth health using TraderMonty's public CSV data. Generates a 0-100 composite score across 6 components (100 = healthy). No API key required. Use when user asks about market breadth, participation rate, advance-decline health, whether the rally is broad-based, or general market health assessment.

# Market Breadth Analyzer Skill

## Purpose

Quantify market breadth health using a data-driven 6-component scoring system (0-100). Uses TraderMonty's publicly available CSV data to measure how broadly the market is participating in a rally or decline.

**Score direction:** 100 = Maximum health (broad participation), 0 = Critical weakness.

**No API key required** - uses freely available CSV data from GitHub Pages.

## When to Use This Skill

**English:**
- User asks "Is the market rally broad-based?" or "How healthy is market breadth?"
- User wants to assess market participation rate
- User asks about advance-decline indicators or breadth thrust
- User wants to know if the market is narrowing (fewer stocks participating)
- User asks about equity exposure levels based on breadth conditions

**Japanese:**
- 「マーケットブレッドスはどうですか？」「市場の参加率は？」
- 「上昇は広がっている？」「一部の銘柄だけの上昇？」
- ブレッドス指標に基づくエクスポージャー判断
- 市場の健康度をデータで確認したい

## Prerequisites

- **Python 3.9+** with `requests` library (for fetching CSV data)
- **Internet access** to reach GitHub Pages URLs
- **No API keys required** - uses freely available public CSV data

## Difference from Breadth Chart Analyst

| Aspect | Market Breadth Analyzer | Breadth Chart Analyst |
|--------|------------------------|----------------------|
| Data Source | CSV (automated) | Chart images (manual) |
| API Required | None | None |
| Output | Quantitative 0-100 score | Qualitative chart analysis |
| Components | 6 scored dimensions | Visual pattern recognition |
| Repeatability | Fully reproducible | Analyst-dependent |

## Execution Workflow

### Phase 1: Execute Python Script

Run the analysis script. If using a nested or date-stamped `--output-dir` in cron runs, create it first; the history writer expects the directory to already exist.

```bash
mkdir -p reports/<routine-or-date>
python3 skills/market-breadth-analyzer/scripts/market_breadth_analyzer.py \
````

The third-party file has ended. Everything between the e1850a7f77c727ae tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
