# managing-api-tokens

A skill for handling Celigo API tokens: creating them, scoping access, revoking and deleting. Useful when a script or pipeline has to authenticate into integrator.io.

## What it does

The skill covers bearer credentials in Celigo — the `accesstoken` resource that authenticates inbound calls to the integrator.io REST API, to custom APIs you built, and to MCP servers. Direction matters here. An API token governs traffic coming into Celigo, which is the opposite of a connection's OAuth token, where Celigo proves its identity to an external system. That mix-up is the first thing the skill heads off.

Two token kinds are laid out side by side. A personal access token is self-service for administrators, manage and monitor users, and it inherits whatever that user can do. An account API token is created by the owner or an administrator and takes either `fullAccess` across the account or an explicit allow-list via `_connectionIds`, `_exportIds`, `_importIds`, `_apiIds`, `_mcpServerIds`, `_topicIds` and `_fileStoragePaths`. The two scoping modes are mutually exclusive. An account token can also be pinned to known IP ranges by assigning it a network policy through `_networkPolicyId`.

Plan the lifetime before you generate anything. A PAT defaults to 90 days, while an account token's `autoPurgeAt` can be set no further than 30 days out. Deletion is gated: a token has to be revoked first. The value itself comes back masked as `******`, and only the UI's show-token action reveals it, to someone who may manage that token. So move the secret from the interface straight into the consumer's secret store, and rotate a leaked token instead of reusing it.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add celigo/ai --skill managing-api-tokens -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/managing-api-tokens/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/managing-api-tokens/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add celigo/ai --skill managing-api-tokens -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/managing-api-tokens/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add celigo/ai --skill managing-api-tokens -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/managing-api-tokens/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install celigo/ai managing-api-tokens
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/managing-api-tokens/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add celigo/ai --skill managing-api-tokens -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/celigo/ai --path skills/managing-api-tokens
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/managing-api-tokens/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add celigo/ai --skill managing-api-tokens -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/celigo/ai/tree/HEAD/skills/managing-api-tokens/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- create a token for a monitoring script that polls flow state
- give a CI/CD pipeline access to only the account resources it needs
- revoke and delete the token of a departing employee
- restrict an account token to known IP ranges
- tell an integrator.io API token apart from a connection's OAuth token

## Example prompts
- Create an account API token scoped to our exports and imports only
- I need a PAT for a script that calls the integrator.io REST API
- Revoke the token we issued for monitoring and delete it

description: Manage Celigo API tokens (the accesstoken resource) -- bearer credentials that authenticate inbound programmatic calls into integrator.io's REST API, custom APIs, and MCP servers. Covers personal access tokens (PATs) versus account-level API tokens, least-privilege scoping versus full access, the revoke-before-delete lifecycle, auto-purge expiry, and keeping token secrets out of chat. # Managing API Tokens

An API token (the API resource `accesstoken`, shown as **API tokens** in the UI) is a **bearer credential that authenticates programmatic calls _into_ Celigo** -- the native integrator.io REST API, any custom APIs you have built in the account, and your MCP servers. It is the machine-to-machine equivalent of a user login: where a person signs in through the UI, a script presents an API token. Account API tokens are created by the owner or an administrator; personal access tokens are self-service for administrators, manage, and monitor users. Either kind is managed only in the integrator.io UI -- see [Where Tokens Are Managed](#where-tokens-are-managed).

Two things to keep straight up front:

- **Direction is inbound.** An API token governs traffic coming *into* Celigo -- the opposite of connections and iClients, which authenticate Celigo's outbound calls *out to* external systems. This is the most common conceptual mix-up; see [API Token vs Connection OAuth Token](#api-token-vs-connection-oauth-token).
- **The token value is a real secret.** It is masked as `******` in API responses; only the UI's show-token action reveals it, and only to users who may manage the token (for a PAT, only its creator). Treat it like a password: never paste a real token into chat and never read one back.

Concerns when managing API tokens:

- **Token kind** -- a **personal access token (PAT)** tied to your own user vs an **account API token** owned by the account. See [Personal Access Tokens (PATs) vs Account API Tokens](#personal-access-tokens-pats-vs-account-api-tokens).
