## What it does

This skill controls the embedded browser inside cmux through the `cmux browser` CLI. Unlike standalone headless browser engines, browser surfaces in cmux belong directly to specific workspace panes and windows. By default, the skill checks `CMUX_WORKSPACE_ID` and `CMUX_SURFACE_ID` so that new browser splits open inside the calling workspace instead of grabbing focus elsewhere.

Automation follows a strict loop: open a URL, verify with `get url`, wait for load states, capture an interactive DOM snapshot, execute actions like `click` or `fill`, and snapshot again. Snapshot element references are strictly temporary. You must take a fresh snapshot immediately after navigation, tab changes, or DOM mutations.

The skill routes diagnostic captures and session JSON into `/cmux-assets/<branch>/browser/...` rather than leaving files in `/tmp`. In remote SSH sessions, traffic routes through the remote machine, making `localhost:3000` resolve directly to the remote host.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add manaflow-ai/cmux-skills --skill cmux-browser -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cmux-browser/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cmux-browser/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add manaflow-ai/cmux-skills --skill cmux-browser -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cmux-browser/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add manaflow-ai/cmux-skills --skill cmux-browser -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cmux-browser/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install manaflow-ai/cmux-skills cmux-browser
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cmux-browser/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add manaflow-ai/cmux-skills --skill cmux-browser -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/manaflow-ai/cmux-skills --path skills/cmux-browser
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cmux-browser/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add manaflow-ai/cmux-skills --skill cmux-browser -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- drive embedded WKWebView surfaces within cmux workspace splits
- inspect DOM structure and interact with elements using compact snapshots
- capture browser console logs, uncaught errors, and screenshots
- save and restore cookies, web storage, and session state across runs

## Example prompts
- Open `http://localhost:3000` in the current cmux workspace and inspect the page title
- Fill `#email` and `#password`, click submit, and check console logs for errors
- Save the current browser surface state and take a screenshot into `/cmux-assets`

# cmux Browser

Use this skill for browser automation inside cmux webview surfaces. It is different from a standalone browser automation tool because every browser surface lives inside a cmux workspace, pane, and surface topology.

## Default Rule

Open and control browser surfaces in the current caller workspace unless the user explicitly names another workspace or window.

Before mutating browser state, identify the caller:

```bash
printf 'workspace=%s\nsurface=%s\nsocket=%s\n' \
  "${CMUX_WORKSPACE_ID:-}" \
  "${CMUX_SURFACE_ID:-}" \
  "${CMUX_SOCKET_PATH:-}"
cmux identify --json
```

Use `CMUX_WORKSPACE_ID` for new browser splits and `CMUX_SURFACE_ID` to understand the terminal that invoked the automation. Do not open a browser in the visually focused workspace if it differs from the caller workspace.

## Core Workflow

```bash
# Open in the caller workspace and capture the returned surface ref.
cmux --json browser open https://example.com --workspace "${CMUX_WORKSPACE_ID:-}"
# Use the returned surface, for example surface:7.
cmux browser surface:7 get url
cmux browser surface:7 wait --load-state complete --timeout-ms 15000
cmux browser surface:7 snapshot --interactive --compact
cmux browser surface:7 click e2 --snapshot-after
cmux browser surface:7 snapshot --interactive --compact
```

Loop: navigate, verify URL, wait, snapshot, act, then re-snapshot. Snapshot refs are temporary. Re-snapshot after navigation, modal changes, tab changes, or DOM updates.

## Targeting

Most subcommands require a browser surface:

```bash
cmux browser identify
cmux browser identify --surface surface:2
cmux browser surface:2 get url
cmux browser --surface surface:2 get title
```

Open commands can create or reuse a browser split:

```bash
cmux browser open http://localhost:3000 --workspace "${CMUX_WORKSPACE_ID:-}" --json
cmux browser open-split https://example.com --workspace workspace:2 --json
cmux browser new https://example.com --window window:1 --json
```

Keep one browser surface per task unless the user asks for multiple tabs or pages.

## Command Groups

See [references/commands.md](references/commands.md) for the full command list. Main groups:

- Navigation and targeting: `identify`, `open`, `open-split`, `new`, `navigate`, `goto`, `back`, `forward`, `reload`, `url`, `focus-webview`, `is-webview-focused`.
- Waiting: `wait --selector`, `--text`, `--url-contains`, `--load-state`, `--function`.
