## What it does

The skill runs in two phases. First the agent gathers context: point it at a repo or project and it reads the README, `package.json`, configs and pulls out the name, stack, palette and fonts. Then it asks about format (512x512 icon, wordmark, combination mark), style, colors and sizes through `AskUserQuestion`. Anything already known gets skipped.

Phase two produces 3–5 concepts that take genuinely different directions instead of variations on one idea. Each concept goes to its own `Task` agent in a single message, so they write in parallel to `logos/concepts/concept-1.svg` and so on. A `logos/preview.html` page is generated afterwards — open it in a browser and pick a direction.

The SVG rules are strict: `viewBox` with no fixed `width`/`height`, no external fonts or images, flat fills, outlines at 6px or more. A logo has to survive at 16–32px, so fine detail gets simplified. Parallel generation depends on the `Task` tool with subagents; in an environment without it the concepts are not written concurrently.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add neonwatty/logo-designer-skill --skill logo-designer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/logo-designer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/logo-designer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add neonwatty/logo-designer-skill --skill logo-designer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/logo-designer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add neonwatty/logo-designer-skill --skill logo-designer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/logo-designer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install neonwatty/logo-designer-skill logo-designer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/logo-designer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add neonwatty/logo-designer-skill --skill logo-designer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/neonwatty/logo-designer-skill --path skills/logo-designer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/logo-designer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add neonwatty/logo-designer-skill --skill logo-designer -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/neonwatty/logo-designer-skill/tree/HEAD/skills/logo-designer/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- get several distinct logo concepts in one run
- pull palette and fonts out of an existing project
- make an icon that stays legible at 16–32px
- compare variants in a browser from one preview page
- rework one part of a logo after feedback

## Example prompts
- create a logo for my project
- read the repo and give me 4 icon concepts
- make a wordmark that matches my app style

# Logo Designer

Design and iterate on logos using SVG. Generates side-by-side previews and exports to PNG at standard sizes.

## Phase 1: Interview

Before generating anything, gather context and ask the user what they need.

### Step 1: Gather context automatically

If the user points to a repo, URL, or existing project:
- Read the README, package.json, CSS/config files, and any existing branding
- Extract: project name, purpose, tech stack, color palette, design language, fonts
- Summarize what you found before asking questions — this avoids asking things you already know

If the user just says "design a logo" with no project context, skip to Step 2.

### Step 2: Ask structured questions

Use the `AskUserQuestion` tool to ask these questions. **Batch related questions together** (up to 4 per call) and **skip any question already answered** by the context gathered in Step 1 or by the user's initial message.

**Question 1 — Format:**
```
question: "What format do you need?"
header: "Format"
options:
  - label: "Icon only (512x512)"
    description: "Square icon, works for favicons, app icons, social avatars"
  - label: "Wordmark only"
    description: "Text logo, 1024x512"
  - label: "Combination mark"
    description: "Icon + text together, 1024x512"
```

**Question 2 — Style direction:**
```
question: "What style direction?"
header: "Style"
options:
  - label: "Minimal / geometric"
    description: "Clean lines, simple shapes, modern feel"
  - label: "Playful / hand-drawn"
    description: "Friendly, casual, organic shapes"
  - label: "Bold / corporate"
    description: "Strong, professional, high contrast"
  - label: "Match existing app style"
    description: "I'll extract the design language from your project"
```

**Question 3 — Color preferences:**
```
question: "Any color preferences?"
header: "Colors"
options:
  - label: "Use project colors"
    description: "I'll pull colors from your existing design system"
  - label: "Surprise me"
    description: "I'll pick a palette that fits the vibe"
  - label: "I have specific colors"
    description: "I'll ask you for them"
```

**Question 4 — Output size** (only if the user mentioned a specific platform):
```
question: "Any specific size requirements?"
header: "Size"
options:
  - label: "Standard sizes"
    description: "16, 32, 48, 192, 512, 1024, 2048px — covers most uses"
  - label: "Custom size needed"
    description: "I'll ask for the exact dimensions"
```
