## What it does

The skill queries business details using the Brave Search API. It accepts between 1 and 20 POI identifiers previously gathered from `local-place-search` or a web search with location filters. The output contains formatted addresses, phone numbers, opening hours, coordinates, price brackets, and review ratings.

Requests require an active Brave Search subscription token in the `BRAVE_SEARCH_API_KEY` environment variable. Location IDs are ephemeral strings that expire after around 8 hours. Storing them for later reuse will fail. The skill also accepts user coordinates to calculate distances in kilometers or miles.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill local-pois -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/local-pois/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/local-pois/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill local-pois -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/local-pois/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill local-pois -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/local-pois/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install brave/brave-search-skills local-pois
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/local-pois/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill local-pois -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/brave/brave-search-skills --path skills/local-pois
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/local-pois/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill local-pois -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/brave/brave-search-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/local-pois/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- fetch contact details and street address using a place ID
- check current and weekly operating hours for a business
- calculate distance to multiple venues from user coordinates
- pull ratings, price levels, and cuisine types for restaurants

## Example prompts
- Get opening hours and contact details for place ID loc4CQWMJWLD4VBEBZ62XQLJTGK6YCJEEJDNAAAAAAA=
- Fetch full details for these business IDs and show distances in metric units

# Local POIs (Search API)

> **Requires API Key**: Get one at https://api.search.brave.com
>
> **Plan**: Included in the **Search** plan. See https://api-dashboard.search.brave.com/app/subscriptions/subscribe
>
> **Two-step flow**: This endpoint requires POI IDs from a prior search.
>
> 1. Get POI IDs from `local-place-search`, or from `web-search` with `result_filter=locations` (`locations.results[].id`)
> 2. Pass those IDs to this endpoint to get full business details

## Quick Start (cURL)

### Get POI Details
```bash
curl -s "https://api.search.brave.com/res/v1/local/pois" \
  -H "Accept: application/json" \
  -H "Accept-Encoding: gzip" \
  -H "X-Subscription-Token: ${BRAVE_SEARCH_API_KEY}" \
  -G \
  --data-urlencode "ids=loc4CQWMJWLD4VBEBZ62XQLJTGK6YCJEEJDNAAAAAAA="
```

### Multiple POIs with Location Headers
```bash
curl -s "https://api.search.brave.com/res/v1/local/pois" \
  -H "Accept: application/json" \
  -H "Accept-Encoding: gzip" \
  -H "X-Subscription-Token: ${BRAVE_SEARCH_API_KEY}" \
  -H "X-Loc-Lat: 37.7749" \
  -H "X-Loc-Long: -122.4194" \
  -G \
  --data-urlencode "ids=loc4CQWMJWLD4VBEBZ62XQLJTGK6YCJEEJDNAAAAAAA=" \
  --data-urlencode "ids=loc4HTAVTJKP4RBEBZCEMBI3NG26YD4II4PATIHPDYI=" \
  --data-urlencode "units=imperial"
```

**Note**: POI IDs are opaque strings returned in web search `locations.results[].id`. IDs are ephemeral and expire after ~8 hours. The example IDs above are for illustration — fetch fresh IDs via `web-search` with `result_filter=locations`. Use `--data-urlencode` since IDs may contain `=`.

## Endpoint

```http
GET https://api.search.brave.com/res/v1/local/pois
```

**Authentication**: `X-Subscription-Token: <API_KEY>` header
