## What it does

The skill builds a three-layer structure: `raw/` for immutable sources (articles, PDFs, screenshots), `wiki/` for agent-written pages (source summaries, entity and concept pages, index, operation log), and `CLAUDE.md` with a schema that carries over between sessions. The agent reads from `raw/` but never modifies those files.

It operates in eight modes: Bootstrap sets up the structure from scratch, Ingest adds a new source and updates linked pages, Query answers a question with citations, Update corrects a claim across multiple pages when a new source supersedes an old one, Lint checks for broken links and orphan pages, Multi-wiki moves material between project and global bases, Migrate upgrades the wiki to a new schema version. The mode is inferred from the request.

The skill does not regenerate the wiki on every query: new sources update existing pages in place, the base compounds across sessions. Without FFmpeg and Pandoc in `PATH`, PDF and video processing will not start.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sametbrr/llm-wiki-manager --skill llm-wiki-manager -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/llm-wiki-manager/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/llm-wiki-manager/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sametbrr/llm-wiki-manager --skill llm-wiki-manager -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/llm-wiki-manager/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sametbrr/llm-wiki-manager --skill llm-wiki-manager -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/llm-wiki-manager/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install sametbrr/llm-wiki-manager llm-wiki-manager
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/llm-wiki-manager/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sametbrr/llm-wiki-manager --skill llm-wiki-manager -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/sametbrr/llm-wiki-manager
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/llm-wiki-manager/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sametbrr/llm-wiki-manager --skill llm-wiki-manager -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/sametbrr/llm-wiki-manager/tree/HEAD/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a knowledge base from articles, PDFs and transcripts
- add a source and update related pages automatically
- get an answer with citations and file it back into the wiki
- correct an outdated claim across all pages at once
- find broken links, orphan pages and contradictions

## Example prompts
- Set up a wiki for LLM research
- Add `raw/smith-2024.pdf` to the wiki and update transformer pages
- What do my notes say about attention mechanism, give me an answer with citations

description: Build, maintain, and query a personal LLM-managed wiki — a markdown knowledge base where the LLM owns all writing, cross-referencing, and bookkeeping while the user curates sources. Use this skill when the user wants to (1) bootstrap a new wiki, second brain, or research notebook; (2) ingest a new source (article, PDF, paper, transcript) and update relevant entity/concept pages, the index, and log; (3) query an existing wiki and synthesize an answer with citations, filing it back if useful; (4) update the wiki when a new source supersedes a claim across multiple pages (diff-before-write sweep); (5) lint the wiki for orphan pages, broken links, index drift, or stub pages — auto-dated reports. Trigger this when the user mentions a "second brain", "research wiki", "knowledge base", or "Memex", or asks Claude to track sources across sessions. Bundles four idempotent scripts and enforces the bookkeeping discipline that makes wikis compound rather than rot.

# LLM Wiki Manager

A skill for running a personal LLM-managed wiki: a persistent, compounding markdown knowledge base where the human curates sources and asks questions, and the LLM does all the reading, writing, cross-referencing, and bookkeeping.

The pattern is intentionally tool-agnostic — it's just markdown files in a git repo. It works in any editor (Obsidian, VS Code, plain `vim`), and the skill makes no assumptions beyond "you have a filesystem and git". The user is on Claude Code.

## The three layers (memorize this)

Every wiki this skill manages has exactly three layers. Confusing them is the most common failure mode.

1. **`raw/`** — immutable sources the user curates. Articles, PDFs, transcripts, screenshots, data files. **The LLM reads from `raw/` but never modifies it.** This is the source of truth; if it gets edited the audit trail breaks.
2. **`wiki/`** — markdown pages the LLM owns entirely. Source summaries, entity pages, concept pages, comparisons. Three structural files always live here: `wiki/index.md` (content catalog), `wiki/log.md` (operation log), `wiki/hot.md` (~500-word hot cache, rewritten after every ingest). The user reads it; the LLM writes it. Pages link to each other and back to specific files in `raw/`.
3. **`CLAUDE.md`** (at the wiki root) — the schema. Tells future LLM sessions how this particular wiki is structured, what the page conventions are, how categories are named, how aggressive ingest should be. **Co-evolved with the user over time** — when something works, write it down here so the next session inherits it.
