## What it does

The skill connects to Brave Search via the `/res/v1/llm/context` REST endpoint. Instead of plain links and short snippets, it returns pre-extracted chunks of text, tables, and code blocks directly from matched pages, sorted by relevance.

Requests require an `X-Subscription-Token` header tied to the Brave Search subscription plan. Developers can configure the token budget via `maximum_number_of_tokens` between 1024 and 32768, restrict domains with custom Goggles rules, and inject latitude or longitude headers for location-aware recall.

Calling this endpoint without an active Brave Search API key will fail immediately. Unlike the multi-search `answers` endpoint, it executes a single search request per call and returns content within one second for your own model to process.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill llm-context -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/llm-context/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/llm-context/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill llm-context -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/llm-context/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill llm-context -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/llm-context/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install brave/brave-search-skills llm-context
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/llm-context/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill llm-context -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/brave/brave-search-skills --path skills/llm-context
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/llm-context/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill llm-context -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/brave/brave-search-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/llm-context/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pull clean page text, code blocks, and tables for RAG pipelines without scraping
- cap web context size precisely between 1024 and 32768 tokens
- filter and re-rank search results with custom Goggles definitions
- ground agent responses using geographic coordinates via location headers

## Example prompts
- Query llm-context for docs.rs pages with max_tokens set to 4096
- Fetch Brave search context about React hooks best practices with freshness pd
- Retrieve web context for mountain elevations with strict threshold mode

# LLM Context

> **Plan**: Included in the **Search** plan. See https://api-dashboard.search.brave.com/app/subscriptions/subscribe

Brave LLM Context API delivers pre-extracted, relevance-ranked web content optimized for grounding LLM responses in real-time search results. Unlike traditional web search APIs that return links and snippets, LLM Context extracts the actual page content—text chunks, tables, code blocks, and structured data—so your LLM or AI agent can reason over it directly.

## LLM Context vs AI Grounding

| Feature | LLM Context (this) | AI Grounding (`answers`) |
|--|--|--|
| Output | Raw extracted content for YOUR LLM | End-to-end AI answers with citations |
| Interface | REST API (GET/POST) | OpenAI-compatible `/chat/completions` |
| Searches | Single search per request | Multi-search (iterative research) |
| Speed | Fast (<1s) | Slower |
| Plan | Search | Answers |
| Endpoint | `/res/v1/llm/context` | `/res/v1/chat/completions` |
| Best for | AI agents, RAG pipelines, tool calls | Chat interfaces, research mode |

## Endpoint

```http
GET  https://api.search.brave.com/res/v1/llm/context
POST https://api.search.brave.com/res/v1/llm/context
```

**Authentication**: `X-Subscription-Token: <API_KEY>` header

**Optional Headers**:
- `Accept-Encoding: gzip` — Enable gzip compression

## Quick Start
