## What it does

This skill owns the list/roundup content type. It right-sizes the premise, assembles items ranked by stated criteria, and shapes each entry as a payload: what it is, why it matters, one specific detail. The RANKS framework runs the whole thing — premise, assembly, per-entry polish, scroll rhythm, then atomizing the list into separate posts.

It reads `brand-profile` and `audience-research` first, so the list matches what you can credibly curate and what readers actually care about. The agent designs the list and drafts the cuts; for roundups it writes the contributor ask. Real quotes and consent come from a human, and so does fact-checking the products. WoopSocial publishes. The skill does no outreach, no product verification, no judging of a finished list.

Hard rules: never fabricate items, quotes or rankings, and never pad to a round number. Affiliate and own-product placements must be disclosed, and ranking follows merit, not commission. Lists in YMYL territory carry a not-professional-advice framing. It does not promise citations or rankings — worth knowing before you plan around it.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill listicle-and-roundup -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/listicle-and-roundup/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/listicle-and-roundup/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill listicle-and-roundup -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/listicle-and-roundup/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill listicle-and-roundup -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/listicle-and-roundup/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install social-media-skills/skills listicle-and-roundup
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/listicle-and-roundup/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill listicle-and-roundup -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/social-media-skills/skills --path skills/listicle-and-roundup
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/listicle-and-roundup/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill listicle-and-roundup -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/social-media-skills/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/listicle-and-roundup/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a "best tools for X" list without inventing entries
- set the item count from the real material instead of padding to 25
- shape each entry so AI search can extract it
- draft the contributor ask for an expert roundup
- split a finished list into social posts and carousels

## Example prompts
- Build a listicle "7 ways to speed up onboarding" with the RANKS framework and state the ranking criteria
- Draft an expert roundup on analytics tools and write the contributor ask
- Break the finished list into individual social posts

  The list/roundup content type — design honestly-curated, scannable, AI-citable listicles ("7 ways to
  X", "best tools for Y") and expert / product / link roundups. Use when someone wants a listicle, a
  "best of" or "top N" list, a ranked recommendation list, an expert roundup, a product/affiliate
  roundup, or a curated resource list. Ranked "best-of" lists are among the most-cited formats in AI
  search. Uses the RANKS framework. Reads brand-profile + audience-research first. The agent designs
  the list and frames the cuts; for roundups it drafts the contributor ask; the human secures real
  contributor quotes/consent and verifies product facts; WoopSocial publishes the cuts. Feeds the
  format writers and ai-search-optimization + social-seo. NEVER fabricates items, quotes, or rankings,
  or pads to a number; discloses affiliate/own-product. Distinct from carousel-writer/thread-writer,
  educational-content-and-how-to, data-and-original-research, and competitor-analysis.

# listicle-and-roundup

The **list/roundup content type** — right-size the premise, assemble honestly, nail every entry, keep the scroll
moving, then spread it. The **format writers** turn it into cuts, **WoopSocial publishes**, and "best of" lists
get engineered for AI citation.

## The POV: the number is a promise, not a target
The listicle is dismissed as lazy — and most are, because they're **padded** ("25 tools" with 17 of them filler)
or **self-serving** ("best X, and we're #1"). But the honestly-ranked, specific list is one of the
highest-leverage assets you can make: maximally scannable, endlessly atomizable, and **disproportionately cited
by AI search** — the ranked "best-of" is repeatedly the single most-cited format in AI answers. Two top-1%
moves separate real lists from slop. First, **the count follows the genuinely-good items** — a tight, honest "7
worth it" beats a padded 25, because the weakest entry sets the perceived quality of the whole. Second — the
counter-intuition — **the independent list compounds; the self-#1 list gets penalized.** The "best of" that earns
citations is the one where you're judged alongside competitors against stated criteria; the higher-leverage play
is earning a placement in someone else's honest list. Curate ruthlessly, rank honestly, make every entry a real
payload.
