Turns an ESP, CRM or GA4 export into behavioral, RFM and lifecycle segments plus a suppression list. Useful before you plan any send.

## What it does

Point the skill at your own data: a subscriber CSV with signup date, last open and last click, opt-in status, an ESP campaign report, or order history from ecommerce or GA4. It sorts the list into four buckets. Behavioral segments group people by activity, such as opens and clicks in the last 90 days or an abandoned cart. Attribute and RFM tiers come from your own order recency, frequency and monetary fields. Lifecycle segments run from new through active, at-risk, lapsed to win-back. The suppression list covers unsubscribes, hard bounces, spam complaints and withdrawn consent.

Every size carries a label. Measured means it was counted from an exported column. Estimated means it was inferred, and the method gets written down. Segment definitions are frozen with a version or hash and an evaluation time, so the same audiences can be reused in later campaigns. Saved artifacts hold no raw addresses; member joins go through opaque `subject_ref` values issued by the host.

Consent and suppression facts are read from `memory/consent/` in the consent-registry, and the skill never writes there — a missing current record comes back as NEEDS_INPUT, which blocks freezing the segment. Sending is not its job: email-creative-builder composes for a segment, email-sequence-designer designs flows, email-quality-auditor scores quality and deliverability-qa handles authentication and content. ESP sync is optional.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill list-segment-builder -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/list-segment-builder/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/list-segment-builder/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill list-segment-builder -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/list-segment-builder/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill list-segment-builder -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/list-segment-builder/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills list-segment-builder
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/list-segment-builder/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill list-segment-builder -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --path email/setup/list-segment-builder
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/list-segment-builder/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill list-segment-builder -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- split a subscriber export into activity and cart-abandoner segments
- assign RFM tiers from your own order history
- map the list onto lifecycle stages
- build a suppression list of unsubscribes, bounces and complaints
- freeze audience definitions so they can be reused across campaigns

## Example prompts
- Build segments from `newsletter_export.csv`, goal is retention.
- Make engaged-90d, lapsed and cart-abandoner segments from my ecommerce and ESP exports, and add the suppression list.
- Map my list to RFM tiers and lifecycle stages so I can reuse the same audiences in every campaign.
