## What it does

The skill exposes the `@linkedapi/linkedin-cli` command-line tool to your agent. Commands send tasks to Linked API, which starts a real cloud browser session to interact with LinkedIn. Because of this browser execution model, requests take anywhere from 30 seconds to several minutes.

It allows the agent to query people using filters like location or current employer. You can inspect profile backgrounds, retrieve recent activity, and endorse skills for 1st-degree connections. Results arrive as JSON. An exit code of 0 only means the network call finished, so checking the `success` field inside the payload is required.

Setup requires an account at `app.linkedapi.io` with a linked LinkedIn profile. Without both `Linked API Token` and `Identification Token` configured, commands halt with exit code 2.

## Requirements
- Works with: LinkedIn

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Linked-API/linkedin-skills --skill linkedin -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/linkedin/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/linkedin/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Linked-API/linkedin-skills --skill linkedin -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/linkedin/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Linked-API/linkedin-skills --skill linkedin -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/linkedin/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Linked-API/linkedin-skills linkedin
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/linkedin/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Linked-API/linkedin-skills --skill linkedin -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Linked-API/linkedin-skills --path linkedin
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/linkedin/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Linked-API/linkedin-skills --skill linkedin -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Linked-API/linkedin-skills/tree/HEAD/linkedin/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- fetch complete LinkedIn profiles with work history and education
- search professionals by target job title and geographic location
- endorse skills for 1st-degree connections matching a text pattern
- retrieve company pages along with decision makers

## Example prompts
- Search for product managers located in San Francisco on LinkedIn
- Fetch the profile at `https://www.linkedin.com/in/username` with recent posts
- Endorse the Project Management skill for `https://www.linkedin.com/in/username`

# LinkedIn Skill

You have access to `linkedin` – a CLI tool for LinkedIn automation. Use it to fetch profiles, search people and companies, send messages, manage connections, create posts, react, comment, and more.

Each command sends a request to Linked API, which runs a real cloud browser to perform the action on LinkedIn. Operations are **not instant** – expect 30 seconds to several minutes depending on complexity.

If `linkedin` is not available, install it:

```bash
npm install -g @linkedapi/linkedin-cli
```

## Authentication

If a command fails with exit code 2 (authentication error), ask the user to set up their account:

1. Go to [app.linkedapi.io](https://app.linkedapi.io) and sign up or log in
2. Connect their LinkedIn account
3. Copy the **Linked API Token** and **Identification Token** from the dashboard

Once the user provides the tokens, run:

```bash
linkedin setup --linked-api-token=TOKEN --identification-token=TOKEN
```

## Global Flags

Always use `--json` and `-q` for machine-readable output:

```bash
LINKEDAPI_CLIENT=skill:linkedin linkedin <command> --json -q
```

When using this skill, run every `linkedin ...` example below with the
`LINKEDAPI_CLIENT=skill:linkedin` prefix so Linked API can attribute usage to the skill.

| Flag | Description |
|------|-------------|
| `--json` | Structured JSON output |
| `--quiet` / `-q` | Suppress stderr progress messages |
| `--fields name,url,...` | Select specific fields in output |
| `--no-color` | Disable colors |
| `--account "Name"` | Use a specific account for this command |

## Output Format

Success:
```json
{"success": true, "data": {"name": "John Doe", "headline": "Engineer"}}
```

Error:
```json
{"success": false, "error": {"type": "personNotFound", "message": "Person not found"}}
```

Exit code 0 means the API call succeeded – always check the `success` field for the action outcome. Non-zero exit codes indicate infrastructure errors:

| Exit Code | Meaning |
|-----------|---------|
| 0 | Success (check `success` field – action may have returned an error like "person not found") |
| 1 | General/unexpected error |
| 2 | Missing or invalid tokens |
| 3 | Subscription/plan required |
| 4 | LinkedIn account issue |
| 5 | Invalid arguments |
| 6 | Rate limited |
| 7 | Network error |
| 8 | Workflow timeout (workflowId returned for recovery) |

## Commands

### Fetch a Person Profile

```bash
linkedin person fetch <url> [flags] --json -q
```

Optional flags to include additional data:
- `--experience` – work history
- `--education` – education history
- `--skills` – skills list
- `--languages` – languages
- `--posts` – recent posts (with `--posts-limit N`, `--posts-since TIMESTAMP`)
