# linkedin-post-writer

Writes LinkedIn posts around the platform's mechanics: a first line that earns the expand, formatting built for dwell time, links pushed to the first comment. Useful for founder and thought-leadership content.

## What it does

The skill takes one idea and turns it into a finished post. It reads `brand-profile.md` and `voice.md` first to hold your tone, and pulls in `audience.md` for the professional segment. The opening line goes through `hook-writer`: mobile shows roughly 140 characters before the "…see more" cutoff, and that tap is the first dwell signal.

Then it picks a format — personal story into a lesson, a contrarian take, a how-to, a case study, an observation — and formats for readability: short sentences, one-to-two-line paragraphs, whitespace between them. Links go in the first comment, because external links in the body suppress reach. Hashtags: 3–5, at the end.

The skill refuses broetry and bait like "Agree?" — there is a whole file for that, `references/avoiding-cringe.md`. Ask for a "comment YES" post and it offers the honest alternative instead. You get 2–3 distinct posts and a recommendation tied to your goal. This is single-post craft only: profile growth lives in `linkedin-growth`, company-page strategy in `linkedin-company-pages`.

## Requirements
- Works with: LinkedIn

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill linkedin-post-writer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/linkedin-post-writer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/linkedin-post-writer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill linkedin-post-writer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/linkedin-post-writer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill linkedin-post-writer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/linkedin-post-writer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install social-media-skills/skills linkedin-post-writer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/linkedin-post-writer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill linkedin-post-writer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/social-media-skills/skills --path skills/linkedin-post-writer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/linkedin-post-writer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill linkedin-post-writer -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/social-media-skills/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/linkedin-post-writer/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- write a LinkedIn post people actually expand past "see more"
- format a long post so readers stay with it
- keep an external link out of the body without losing reach
- close a post on a question worth answering
- rewrite a post without broetry or engagement bait

## Example prompts
- Write a LinkedIn post about how we rewrote our task queue
- Draft a founder post: three lessons from a launch that flopped
- Thought leadership post for LinkedIn, put the link in the first comment

  Use to write a LinkedIn post — professional, thought-leadership, or founder/personal-brand
  content optimized for LinkedIn's specific mechanics (dwell time, early comments, the "see more"
  hook). Run when the user says "write a LinkedIn post," "LinkedIn," "post this on LinkedIn,"
  "thought leadership post," "founder post," or wants professional/B2B social content. Reads
  brand-profile and voice first, uses hook-writer for the opening line that must win the "see
  more" expand, formats for dwell, drives genuine comments, and routes links to the first comment
  to protect reach. Avoids LinkedIn cringe (broetry, engagement bait). This is the single-post
  craft: to "grow on LinkedIn" or set the account strategy use linkedin-growth; for company-page
  strategy use linkedin-company-pages; for general captions use caption-writer; for X threads use
  thread-writer; for the carousel slides use carousel-writer.

# LinkedIn Post Writer

LinkedIn is its own game, and posts written like generic social captions underperform on it. The
algorithm rewards two things above all — **dwell time** (how long people actually spend on the
post) and **early, meaningful comments** — and the format has its own rules: the "…see more" hook,
whitespace that makes long posts readable, links that suppress reach, and personal voices that
beat company pages.

Two commitments shape every post here:

1. **Earn the read, then earn the comment.** Write the opening to win the "…see more" tap, format
   the body so people actually read it (dwell), and close in a way that invites a real comment.
2. **Substance over LinkedIn theatre.** The platform is full of broetry and "Agree? 👇"
   engagement bait — which both the algorithm and credible professionals increasingly punish.
   This skill does what genuinely works and refuses the cringe. See
   `references/avoiding-cringe.md`.

## Step 0 — Read the foundation first

Load `brand-profile.md` and `voice.md` (and `audience.md` for the professional segment). The
LinkedIn register is usually a notch more authority-leaning than other platforms, but still human
and first-person. Carry guardrails and any compliance rules.

## Step 1 — Lock the idea, goal, and who's posting

- **One idea** — the single point, story, or insight.
