## What it does

This skill coordinates Linear workflows through the `project-mcp` server. It relies on four specific tools: `linear_create_issue`, `linear_update_issue`, `linear_search`, and `linear_cycles`. These handle ticket queries and status updates. The agent requires an active `project-mcp` connection to execute these actions.

The setup provides templates for bug reports, feature requests, and epic breakdown into sub-tasks. Workflow rules tie directly into GitHub events. Creating a branch moves a Linear issue to In Progress and assigns the author. Opening a pull request switches the status to In Review, and merging the PR marks the issue Done. A reminder triggers if an active task lacks a linked PR for 48 hours.

Cycle management runs on a two-week schedule with a 20% buffer. Engineering capacity is budgeted at 8 points per person. Fixed milestones include a feature freeze on day 10, code freeze on day 12, and release on day 14.

## Requirements
- Works with: Linear

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill linear-automation -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/linear-automation/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/linear-automation/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill linear-automation -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/linear-automation/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill linear-automation -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/linear-automation/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install claude-office-skills/skills linear-automation
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/linear-automation/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill linear-automation -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/claude-office-skills/skills --path linear-automation
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/linear-automation/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill linear-automation -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/claude-office-skills/skills/tree/HEAD/linear-automation/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- break epics into sub-issues across backend, frontend, and QA
- synchronize Linear issue statuses with GitHub branches and pull requests
- calculate cycle capacity using an 8-point limit and 20% buffer
- generate bug reports and feature requests using predefined templates

## Example prompts
- Create a Linear bug report for auth failure with reproduction steps and logs
- Break down the checkout epic into sub-issues with estimates and labels
- Show current cycle progress, story points, and blocked issues

# Linear Automation

Comprehensive skill for automating Linear issue tracking and engineering workflows.

## Core Workflows

### 1. Issue Lifecycle

```
LINEAR ISSUE FLOW:
┌─────────────────┐
│    Triage       │
│   (Backlog)     │
└────────┬────────┘
         ▼
┌─────────────────┐
│    Todo         │
│  (Prioritized)  │
└────────┬────────┘
         ▼
┌─────────────────┐
│  In Progress    │
│   (Active)      │
└────────┬────────┘
         ▼
┌─────────────────┐
│   In Review     │
│  (PR Created)   │
└────────┬────────┘
         ▼
┌─────────────────┐
│     Done        │
│   (Merged)      │
└────────┬────────┘
         ▼
┌─────────────────┐
│   Cancelled     │
│  (If needed)    │
└─────────────────┘
```

### 2. Automation Triggers

```yaml
automations:
  - name: auto_assign_on_start
    trigger:
      type: status_changed
      to: "In Progress"
    condition:
      assignee: null
    action:
      set_assignee: "{{trigger_user}}"
  - name: add_to_cycle
    trigger:
      type: issue_created
      labels: ["sprint-ready"]
    action:
      add_to_cycle: current
      set_priority: urgent
  - name: create_pr_reminder
    trigger:
      type: status_changed
      to: "In Progress"
      duration: "48 hours"
    condition:
      no_linked_pr: true
    action:
````
