## What it does

The skill finds electronic parts using the free jlcsearch community API and direct LCSC endpoints without authentication. At its core, the `search_lcsc.py` script queries components by keyword, footprint, live stock, or JLCPCB basic part status via `--basic` to cut feeder setup fees during PCB assembly.

When looking up exact `Cxxxxx` codes or passing the `--details` flag, the script queries LCSC directly with a 0.5s pause between requests. This enriches the output with the manufacturer name, price tier tables, and direct CDN links to PDF datasheets. It also supports JSON output for automated BOM enrichment.

Running these lookups requires Python 3 installed in your local environment. It speeds up component sourcing directly inside your agent session without manual distributor lookups.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aklofas/kicad-happy --skill lcsc -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/lcsc/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/lcsc/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aklofas/kicad-happy --skill lcsc -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/lcsc/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aklofas/kicad-happy --skill lcsc -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/lcsc/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install aklofas/kicad-happy lcsc
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/lcsc/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aklofas/kicad-happy --skill lcsc -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/aklofas/kicad-happy --path skills/lcsc
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/lcsc/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aklofas/kicad-happy --skill lcsc -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- find electronic parts by Cxxxxx code or manufacturer part number
- inspect stock levels and volume pricing tiers
- filter basic parts to eliminate JLCPCB setup fees
- download direct PDF datasheets from the LCSC CDN

## Example prompts
- Search LCSC for 0805 red LEDs in stock and show basic parts only
- Inspect component details and pricing tiers for C318884
- Find STM32 microcontrollers on LCSC and output the results as JSON

name: lcsc
description: Search LCSC Electronics for electronic components — find parts by LCSC number (Cxxxxx) or MPN, check stock/pricing, download datasheets, analyze specifications. Sister company to JLCPCB, same parts library. Sync and maintain a local datasheets directory for a KiCad project, or use batch MPN-list seeding (`--mpn-list`) for bulk workflows without a project. No API key needed — uses the free jlcsearch community API. Use this skill when the user mentions LCSC, JLCPCB parts library, JLCPCB assembly parts, production sourcing, Cxxxxx part numbers, needs to find LCSC equivalents for parts, is preparing a BOM for JLCPCB assembly, or wants to download datasheets and LCSC is available. For package cross-reference tables and BOM workflow, see the `bom` skill.

## Related Skills

| Skill | Purpose |
|-------|---------|
| `kicad` | Schematic analysis — extracts MPNs for part lookup |
| `bom` | BOM management — orchestrates sourcing across distributors |
| `jlcpcb` | PCB assembly — shares the same parts library |
| `spice` | Uses LCSC parametric data for behavioral SPICE models (no auth needed) |

LCSC is JLCPCB's sister company — they share the same parts library and `Cxxxxx` part numbers. Use LCSC for **production sourcing** (assembled boards from JLCPCB/PCBWay). DigiKey/Mouser are for prototyping. For BOM management and export workflows, see `bom`.

## Key Differences from DigiKey/Mouser

- **No API key needed** — jlcsearch community API is free and open
- **Lower prices** — especially for passives and Chinese-manufactured ICs
- **JLCPCB integration** — same LCSC part numbers used in JLCPCB assembly BOMs
- **Direct PDF downloads** — LCSC's CDN (wmsc.lcsc.com) serves datasheets without bot protection
- **Low MOQ** — many parts available in quantities as low as 1
- **Warehouses** — Shenzhen (JS), Zhuhai (ZH), Hong Kong (HK)
- **Website**: `https://www.lcsc.com`

## LCSC Part Numbers

Format: `Cxxxxx` (e.g., `C14663`). This is the universal identifier across both LCSC and JLCPCB. Use it for:
- Direct ordering on LCSC
- BOM matching in JLCPCB assembly (see `jlcpcb` skill)
- Cross-referencing between platforms

## Component Search

Use `search_lcsc.py` to search LCSC and JLCPCB for electronic components, check live stock, inspect pricing tiers, identify basic vs. extended parts, and fetch parametric attributes. **No API key required.**

```bash
# Search by keyword or description
python3 <skill-path>/scripts/search_lcsc.py "tactile switch"
# Search for basic parts only (no JLCPCB extended loading fees)
python3 <skill-path>/scripts/search_lcsc.py "0805 100R" --basic
# Filter by package/footprint and stock
python3 <skill-path>/scripts/search_lcsc.py "red led" --package 0805 --in-stock
# Inspect full component details (manufacturer, datasheet URL, price breaks, parametric attributes)
python3 <skill-path>/scripts/search_lcsc.py "C318884" --details
# Output machine-readable JSON (for scripts and agent workflows)
python3 <skill-path>/scripts/search_lcsc.py "ME2108" --limit 5 --json
# Sort results by price or stock
