## What it does

This skill targets layout consistency at the macro level. It defines the page skeleton and structural patterns across an application. Meso elements like button radiuses or micro tokens like status colors do not solve navigation confusion if every screen invents its own grid. The skill monitors files across `app/**`, `pages/**`, and UI components like `.tsx` or `.vue`.

Layout decisions follow the structure of underlying data. Chronological records become feeds. Workflow stages map to kanban boards. Records evaluated on shared fields require tables. Hierarchical entities call for a master-detail split. Beyond application views, it guides narrative pacing on SaaS landing pages, organizing proof points and calls to action.

A layout paradigm fails when selected before the data model is settled. Forcing a kanban layout on items without clear state progressions produces a broken workflow.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add dembrandt/dembrandt-skills --skill layout-paradigms-and-consistency -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/layout-paradigms-and-consistency/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/layout-paradigms-and-consistency/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add dembrandt/dembrandt-skills --skill layout-paradigms-and-consistency -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/layout-paradigms-and-consistency/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add dembrandt/dembrandt-skills --skill layout-paradigms-and-consistency -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/layout-paradigms-and-consistency/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install dembrandt/dembrandt-skills layout-paradigms-and-consistency
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/layout-paradigms-and-consistency/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add dembrandt/dembrandt-skills --skill layout-paradigms-and-consistency -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/dembrandt/dembrandt-skills --path skills/layout-paradigms-and-consistency
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/layout-paradigms-and-consistency/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add dembrandt/dembrandt-skills --skill layout-paradigms-and-consistency -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- select matching page paradigms for specific data models
- unify divergent screen layouts across an application
- structure master-detail views for hierarchical workflows
- organize narrative sections on conversion landing pages

## Example prompts
- Help me decide between a kanban board and a table for this workflow.
- Review our page templates in `src/pages` for layout consistency.
- Structure a SaaS landing page around our value proposition and proof points.

# Layout Paradigms and Consistency

A layout is not a neutral container you pour content into. The layout paradigm you choose is part of the argument about how the content should be read, compared, and acted on. Two products showing the same data can communicate completely different things depending on whether that data is a feed, a table, or a board.
