# launch-with-aws

Takes a web app from analysis to deployment on AWS and hands back deployable AWS Blocks infrastructure code. Useful when the project came out of Lovable, Bolt.new or Replit.

## What it does

The skill reads your app directory, works out a migration plan with a cost estimate, and produces AWS Blocks infrastructure code you can deploy. Everything runs through CLI scripts: `python3 scripts/launch_with_aws.py <command>`, each printing JSON to stdout. The agent has to set the working directory to the skill root first, or the scripts won't find the files sitting next to them.

What actually moves depends on where the app came from. For Lovable and Bolt.new projects, the frontend, edge functions and AI calls go to AWS (S3, CloudFront, Lambda, Amazon Bedrock), while the database, auth, storage and realtime stay on Supabase and the app keeps calling them. For Replit projects, the Express.js server logic, the PostgreSQL schema and WebSockets all move to AWS, but existing data, user accounts and files have to be exported and imported by you. Worth checking how many active users you have before you start.

You need Python 3.10+ and `boto3` — the script checks both on startup and exits with a clear error if either is missing. Auth comes first: `auth-start` returns a sign-in link to show the user, then `auth-wait` blocks until the browser sign-in finishes. Sessions are capped at 90 days, after which the interactive flow is required again. On a shared machine, run `sign-out` when you're done — it revokes the refresh token and deletes `~/.launch-with-aws/session.json`. The AWS MCP server is recommended but not required; the skill works standalone.

## Requirements
- Works with: AWS

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill launch-with-aws -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/launch-with-aws/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/launch-with-aws/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill launch-with-aws -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/launch-with-aws/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill launch-with-aws -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/launch-with-aws/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws launch-with-aws
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/launch-with-aws/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill launch-with-aws -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --path skills/core-skills/launch-with-aws
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/launch-with-aws/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill launch-with-aws -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws/tree/HEAD/skills/core-skills/launch-with-aws/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- move a Lovable app to AWS without hand-building the infrastructure
- get a migration plan with a cost estimate before committing to the work
- port Express.js and a PostgreSQL schema from Replit to Lambda and Aurora Serverless
- ship a static site or SPA to S3 and CloudFront
- move AI calls off the Lovable AI Gateway onto Amazon Bedrock

## Example prompts
- migrate my app to AWS
- launch this project on AWS and show me the migration plan with the cost estimate
- deploy my website to AWS

# Launch with AWS

Drives an AWS migration end-to-end using CLI scripts. Takes a user's web application, analyzes it, generates a migration plan with cost estimate, and delivers deployable [AWS Blocks](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/blocks/latest/devguide/what-is-blocks.html) infrastructure code.

The AWS MCP server is recommended but is not required. This skill works standalone via its CLI scripts in any agent environment.

## Script Invocation

All commands are run via:

```bash
python3 scripts/launch_with_aws.py <command> [args...]
```

where `scripts/` is relative to this skill directory. The agent MUST set the working directory to the skill root before invoking commands.

Required files: [launch_with_aws.py](scripts/launch_with_aws.py), [launch_config.py](scripts/launch_config.py), [auth.py](scripts/auth.py), [auth_callback_server.py](scripts/auth_callback_server.py), [launch_api_client.py](scripts/launch_api_client.py), [archive.py](scripts/archive.py), [service model](references/launchwithaws-2026-06-15.json). When loaded via MCP, fetch all and write to a temp directory preserving structure before invoking.

Each command outputs JSON to stdout on success, or exits non-zero with a JSON error on stderr.
