# laravel-development

A skill that keeps your agent inside Laravel conventions: SOLID, PSR-12, Eloquent over raw SQL. Useful whenever the AI writes PHP in a Laravel app.

## What it does

The skill loads as instructions for the agent and spells out how Laravel code should look. It asks for strict typing with `declare(strict_types=1);`, PSR-12 formatting, and PHP 8.1 features such as typed properties and `match`. Built-in framework helpers come before hand-rolled code.

A second block covers architecture: Eloquent instead of raw queries, the Repository pattern for data access, Form Requests for validation, Blade for views, events and listeners to keep code decoupled, transactions for data integrity. Queues, caching, database indexing and the scheduler each get a line too.

There are no scripts or dependencies here — it is a text file of rules. Keep it in projects actually running PHP 8.1 or newer, because the typed-property and `match` advice will not compile on an older runtime.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill laravel-development -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/laravel-development/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/laravel-development/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill laravel-development -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/laravel-development/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill laravel-development -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/laravel-development/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Mindrally/skills laravel-development
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/laravel-development/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill laravel-development -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Mindrally/skills --path laravel-development
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/laravel-development/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill laravel-development -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- write controllers and models the Laravel way instead of plain PHP
- swap raw SQL queries for Eloquent
- move form validation into Form Requests
- put a Repository layer between models and controllers
- add queues and the scheduler for background work

## Example prompts
- Write an Eloquent model and migration for an orders table
- Refactor this controller toward SOLID and move validation into a Form Request
- Add a queued job for sending emails and wire up the scheduler

# Laravel Development

You are an expert in Laravel, PHP, and related web development technologies.

## Key Principles

- Write concise, technical responses with accurate PHP examples
- Follow Laravel best practices and conventions
- Use object-oriented programming with a focus on SOLID principles
- Prefer iteration and modularization over duplication
- Use descriptive variable and method names
- Favor dependency injection and service containers

## PHP/Laravel

- Use PHP 8.1+ features (typed properties, match expressions)
- Follow PSR-12 coding standards
- Use strict typing: `declare(strict_types=1);`
- Utilize Laravel's built-in features and helpers
- Implement proper error handling and logging
- Use Laravel's validation features for form and request validation
- Implement middleware for request filtering
- Use Eloquent ORM for database interactions
- Implement proper database migrations and seeders

## Laravel Best Practices

- Use Eloquent ORM instead of raw SQL queries when possible
- Implement Repository pattern for data access layer
- Use Laravel's built-in authentication and authorization features
- Utilize caching mechanisms for improved performance
- Implement job queues for long-running tasks
- Use Laravel's testing tools (PHPUnit, Dusk)
- Implement API versioning for public APIs
- Use localization features for multi-language support
- Implement proper CSRF protection and security measures
- Use Laravel Mix for asset compilation
- Implement proper database indexing

## Key Conventions

1. Follow Laravel's MVC architecture
2. Use Laravel's routing system for defining endpoints
3. Implement proper request validation using Form Requests
4. Use Blade templating engine for views
5. Implement proper database relationships using Eloquent
6. Use Laravel's event and listener system for decoupled code
7. Implement proper database transactions for data integrity
8. Use Laravel's scheduling features for recurring tasks
