## What it does

The skill acts as a router rather than an SDK reference. It first turns your request into an intake packet: app shape, runtime, what evidence you already have, and where confidence is weak. Then it picks one primary packet — `trace-debug`, `eval`, `review`, `prompt-registry`, `propagation` or `audit` — and points at the smallest surface that answers the question.

Support docs cover the Python and TypeScript SDKs, the CLI, and the routing tables. For quick model-call coverage there are provider wrappers such as `wrap_openai` and `wrap_anthropic`; for named spans, `@traceable` / `traceable()`; for structured human review, annotation queues with feedback criteria; for regressions, datasets and experiments. When the real job turns out to be SLOs, alerts, log triage or deployment, the skill hands it off to the matching skill instead.

It fits teams that already picked LangSmith as their tracing and eval substrate. You need a Python or TypeScript project plus access to `LANGSMITH_API_KEY`; self-hosted setups may also need `LANGSMITH_ENDPOINT` and `LANGSMITH_WORKSPACE_ID`. Without that key there is nowhere for traces to go, so check your environment variables before instrumenting anything.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add akillness/jeo-skills --skill langsmith -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/langsmith/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/langsmith/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add akillness/jeo-skills --skill langsmith -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/langsmith/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add akillness/jeo-skills --skill langsmith -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/langsmith/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install akillness/jeo-skills langsmith
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/langsmith/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add akillness/jeo-skills --skill langsmith -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/akillness/jeo-skills --path .agent-skills/langsmith
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/langsmith/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add akillness/jeo-skills --skill langsmith -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/akillness/jeo-skills/tree/HEAD/.agent-skills/langsmith/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- figure out what actually happened in an agent run from the run tree
- add a regression gate before shipping a prompt change
- set up an annotation queue with clear scoring criteria
- decide where prompt versions live and how to compare them
- link traces from one request that fans out across services and tools

## Example prompts
- Look at the run tree for this agent run and find which spans went missing
- Build a dataset and an experiment so I can compare the current prompt against the new version before shipping
- Set up cross-service tracing: the request goes through the API, a worker and a tool call, and I need them in one chain

  Route LangSmith work into one workflow packet before touching SDK code.
  Use when the user needs LangSmith tracing, offline evals, annotation/review queues,
  prompt-registry decisions, audit/gap review, or cross-service trace propagation for
  an LLM app or agent workflow. Choose one packet: trace-debug, eval, review,
  prompt-registry, propagation, or audit. Triggers on: LangSmith, LangChain tracing,
  `@traceable` / `traceable`, `wrap_openai` / `wrapOpenAI`, datasets, experiments,
  annotation queues, feedback criteria, Prompt Hub, run trees, trace IDs, or
  production confidence for an AI feature. Not for generic SLO/alert design,
  non-LangSmith deployment orchestration, or runtime guardrails outside LangSmith.

# LangSmith

## When to use this skill
- The user already chose **LangSmith** and needs the smallest useful packet for tracing, evals, review, prompt ownership, or trace propagation.
- A request mentions **LangChain tracing**, **`@traceable` / `traceable`**, **`wrap_openai` / `wrapOpenAI`**, **annotation queues**, **run trees**, **trace IDs**, **datasets**, or **experiment comparison**.
- The team needs to decide whether a change needs **debugging traces**, an **offline eval gate**, an **online review queue**, **Prompt Hub / prompt-registry** work, or **multi-service lineage**.
- The user has some LangSmith setup already, but confidence is still low and they need an **audit / gap review**.

Do **not** use this skill as the main workflow when:
- The real job is **generic dashboards / alerts / SLOs / telemetry ownership** → `monitoring-observability`
- The real job is **existing-log root-cause triage** → `log-analysis`
- The real job is **code-level reproduction / bug isolation** → `debugging`
- The real job is **deployment / rollout choreography** → `deployment-automation`
```
