## What it does

lab-forge assembles an assignment package: a handout, starter code, synthetic data, a reference solution, and an autograder. Data can vary by student, while the grader separates visible tests from hidden ones. Five agents handle lab design, dataset generation, scaffolding, grading tests, and solution verification.

The skill runs its artifacts as it works. It solves the assignment using student-facing materials, then tests the grader against both that solution and the untouched scaffold. The full lab mode needs the topics taught, the student environment, and class size; when context is missing, the skill asks rather than guesses. Autograder and solution requests without student-facing materials are redirected to building a lab first.

This builds teaching materials; checking submitted student work is assigned to `submission-auditor` instead.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --skill lab-forge -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/lab-forge/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/lab-forge/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --skill lab-forge -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/lab-forge/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --skill lab-forge -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/lab-forge/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install YujxZJCN/teaching-skills lab-forge
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/lab-forge/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --skill lab-forge -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --path lab-forge
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/lab-forge/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --skill lab-forge -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/YujxZJCN/teaching-skills/tree/HEAD/lab-forge/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- assemble a lab with data and runnable starter code
- generate student-specific synthetic datasets
- create an autograder with visible and hidden tests
- execute a reference solution against assignment materials

## Example prompts
- Build a regression lab with a dataset, starter code, and an executed reference solution.
- Generate synthetic data for this assignment, with a separate variant for each student.
- Create an autograder for these materials and test it against the solution and untouched scaffold.

# Lab Forge — Executable Teaching-Artifact Team

Builds the artifacts a STEM assignment is actually made of: the dataset students load,
the scaffold they fill in, the tests that grade them, the solution that proves the whole
thing is doable. Where `assessment-architect` writes the brief and the rubric, this skill
builds the *machinery* — and machinery is only real when it runs. Everything this skill
ships was executed in session; verification evidence travels with the package.

> **Prime rule:** executed, not assumed. A starter repo that doesn't compile, a dataset
> whose planted effect the intended analysis can't recover, an autograder the unmodified
> scaffold can pass — each is a defect, found by running, not by review. Verification is
> part of the build, never an optional final step.

## Quick Start

```
Build the Week 6 regression lab for STAT 210 — it's A3 in the passport
给我的机器学习课做一个编程作业：起始代码 + 自动评分
Generate a per-student dataset for the ANOVA lab — 45 students, same difficulty each
Write the autograder for this assignment spec; here's the starter repo
Make 4 variants of last year's pathfinding lab so sections can't share answers
我需要这次实验的参考答案和评分说明
```

## Modes

| Mode | Trigger intent | Output |
|------|---------------|--------|
| `lab` | "Build the lab / programming assignment for…" | Complete package: handout + starter + data + verified solution + grader + verification record |
| `dataset` | "Generate data for…" / per-student data requests | Synthetic dataset(s) with planted, recoverable properties; per-student/per-section variants; professor-only ground-truth doc |
| `starter-code` | "Starter code / scaffold / skeleton for…" | Scaffold repo: structure, stubs with full contracts, fixed vs student zones fenced, runs as shipped |
