## What it does

The skill lays out Kubernetes manifests for Deployments, Services, Ingress, ConfigMaps, and Secrets. Its examples cover container resources, environment variables, HTTP liveness and readiness probes, and reading a database URL from a Secret.

It also collects `kubectl` commands for applying files, checking rollout progress, viewing pods and logs, entering a pod, scaling, undoing a rollout, and forwarding a service port locally. The deployment section compares Rolling update, Recreate, Blue/green, and Canary, then shows a Horizontal Pod Autoscaler.

Do not commit plaintext secrets to Git. The skill points to Sealed Secrets, SOPS, or external secret managers for that case.

## Requirements
- Works with: Kubernetes

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add spencerpauly/awesome-cursor-skills --skill kubernetes-deploying -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/kubernetes-deploying/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/kubernetes-deploying/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add spencerpauly/awesome-cursor-skills --skill kubernetes-deploying -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/kubernetes-deploying/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add spencerpauly/awesome-cursor-skills --skill kubernetes-deploying -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/kubernetes-deploying/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install spencerpauly/awesome-cursor-skills kubernetes-deploying
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/kubernetes-deploying/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add spencerpauly/awesome-cursor-skills --skill kubernetes-deploying -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/spencerpauly/awesome-cursor-skills --path resources/kubernetes-deploying
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/kubernetes-deploying/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add spencerpauly/awesome-cursor-skills --skill kubernetes-deploying -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/spencerpauly/awesome-cursor-skills/tree/HEAD/resources/kubernetes-deploying/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build Deployment and Service manifests
- route traffic through a TLS Ingress
- add liveness and readiness probes
- scale a Deployment manually or with an HPA
- undo a failed Kubernetes rollout

## Example prompts
- Use the `kubernetes-deploying` skill to prepare manifests for the application in `k8s/`.
- Inspect the `my-app` Deployment, its pods, and its logs with `kubectl`.
- Configure a TLS Ingress, a readiness probe, and horizontal scaling for `my-app`.
