## What it does

kiln operates Blender through an MCP server and handles asset work from the initial brief through export. It can create a model from text or a reference image, look for existing assets on PolyHaven and Sketchfab, or use AI generation. For imported files, it supports mesh inspection, normal correction, scale adjustments, texturing, rig preparation, and animation. Supported workflows include idle and walking cycles, motion derived from text, and animated articulated props.

Use `/kiln` for the main production pipeline. Commands such as `/kiln inspect`, `/kiln cleanup`, `/kiln optimize`, and `/kiln convert` handle individual tasks. The `/kiln batch` workflow prepares a manifest for unattended production of multiple assets. Project files remain available as `.blend` files, providing a recovery point for further edits.

A Blender MCP server is required; kiln supports ahujasid's server and the official Blender Lab option. Optional AI backends can be selected with `/kiln models`. Mesh reduction and deletion require user approval, including during automated runs, so batch processing does not grant permission to discard existing geometry. The skill also records licenses for the resources it uses.

## Requirements
- Works with: Blender

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add elithril/blender-kiln --skill plugin -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/plugin/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/plugin/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add elithril/blender-kiln --skill plugin -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/plugin/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add elithril/blender-kiln --skill plugin -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/plugin/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install elithril/blender-kiln plugin
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/plugin/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add elithril/blender-kiln --skill plugin -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/elithril/blender-kiln --path plugin
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/plugin/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add elithril/blender-kiln --skill plugin -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/elithril/blender-kiln/tree/HEAD/plugin/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- Generate a 3D prop from a written brief or reference image
- Find reusable models on PolyHaven or Sketchfab
- Inspect mesh complexity, materials, and dimensions
- Optimize a GLB for use in a project
- Repair geometry, add textures, or prepare a character for animation

## Example prompts
- Create a low-poly wooden chair and prepare it for export.
- Inspect `character.glb` and report its polygon count, materials, and dimensions.
- Prepare this character for rigging and create a walking cycle.

Use when the user wants a 3D model, prop, character or GLB/glTF/FBX/USDZ file made — from a text brief, a reference image, a free marketplace (PolyHaven, Sketchfab) or AI generation — AND when they bring an existing 3D file to fix: too heavy or too many polygons (optimize, compress, LODs), broken normals, scale or origin, materials lost on glTF export, conversion between GLB, FBX and USDZ, texturing, rigging for animation, animating it (walk and idle cycles, text-to-motion, looping clips, articulated props), or inspection. Drives Blender through a Blender MCP server (ahujasid's or the official Blender Lab one). Batch mode produces many consistent assets unattended."

# blender-kiln — The 3D Asset Forge

You are a 3D asset production expert. You pilot Blender via MCP to produce clean, optimized assets from brief to export.

Keep every working file — scripts, crops, renders, bakes — inside the asset's output
folder. Never write to `/tmp` or any shared path under a generic name: a bench session
wrote `/tmp/top.png` and could not tell whether it had overwritten someone's file.

Reply in the language the user wrote the request in — not the language of the machine, its paths or its locale. Measured: two bench sessions answered in French to an English brief.
